The music in this game kept me playing way past gaming tedium. I played just to look at the sky and hear the music.

Definitely the greatest Elder Scrolls game.

* Arena is bigger
* Battlespire is... HAHAHAHAHAHA I can't make myself say it!
* Daggerfall is more ambitious
* Morrowind is deeper
* Skyrim is fancier

But you know what, Oblivion is beautiful and engaging. I've played Oblivion for literally most of my life now. I'm still not bored of it. The hundreds of quests are nearly all interesting and worth it. The guilds all have unique storylines that make you feel the world change as you advance. The plot has real stakes to it and characters you like. The cities all have unique charm and range from sleepy towns to metropolitan hubs. The combat isn't the greatest, but it's arguably the best balance between Morrowind's computerized dice rolls and Skyrim's dumbed down borderline scripted combat. Every still does something unique and you notice the game change as you advance. Leveling your stats makes you notice how powerful you become, as you go from slow, weak, can barely move at half a mile per hour, to a sprinting death machine hurling fire and lightning from your hands, dishing out vicious flurries with a two handed sword claimed from a slain foe beyond the limits of reality, clad in nigh invulnerable armor and with HP reserves to make even the nastiest monster wail in despair. And then there are the quiet moments. Sunrise in the Jerral Mountains. Strolling across the West Weald on a sunny day. Walking into town to sell your loot and just wanting to breathe in the ambiance. Emerging from an ancient ruin full of undead to be greeted by the swelling music telling you it's all calm now. Swimming your way down Lake Rumare to Layawin just because you can. Oblivion isn't just a game you play in, Cyrodil becomes a world you live in.

Memory of playing this game so long, I looked out my bedroom window and was like.. what is this life? The game literally took me away. I’d go back again

There were many times as a kid when I was playing this on my PS3 and just stare up at the night sky for a while. All before Skyrim came out.

POV: it’s 2007 and you’re playing your first elder scrolls game past your bed time
