Solar Surge will teach you all about being energy independent and how to set up your home to run off-the-grid during an emergency. We empower families to take control of their energy generation and storage so that they will never be left in the dark without electricity.

In this video, Joe presents the pro's and con's of using premium solar panels compared to standard priced solar panels. The key question is whether the owner's goal is maximum financial return-on-investment or maximum energy production.

I don't know if it's for your awesome explanations or your spot on choice of shirts, but you got me to subscribe!

The upfront cost for a premium panel like REC is more but with higher power output and less degradation compared to standard panel over the course of 25-30 years, don't you think paying that premium initially probably pays off in the long run?

Thanks for your common sense explanation.

Is there anything that compares the price per watt difference given the total expected wattage produced over a panel's lifetime under NOCT conditions? As an example, given NOCT and comparing the REC365AA and the Q.PEAK DUO BLK-G6+ 340, it seems the REC365AA would produce more overall watts over 25 years, as the REC panel is more efficient and degrades less over time. If one is paying say $2.75 per watt for the REC panels at installation and $2.60 for the Q.PEAK panels, would the REC come close to making up for the initial difference in price per kWh, when considering the wattage that would be produced over the lifetime of the panels? If that is factored in, how close (as regards to cost per kWh) would they get?

Hello Joe! Thank you for the information and nice video as well. Although I am new to your channel (but now a subscriber and have become a reguar), there's an explanation or detail I am yet to grasp and I would appreciate if you can enlighten me on this. It has to do with the size of the solar array. When you say the solar array is 5KW, why isn't the voltage spec included in the information? From example, a solar array can be 10KW/24volts or 10KW/48volts. While I understand the difference between the 2-solar arrays, i wonder why the voltage 12/24/48 isn't included.

When you try to come off as informartive, but you wont tell a price, somethings not right. You could try to have us beleive, the prices change so often we can quote an accurate price, but you we know better than that!

Id live to see how these two option stack against a tesla solar roof

I think you missed one aspect of choosing. If you live where there’s less light on the horizon, you’re more likely to want the better panels. Also if you have less roof space.
