'Japanese Grammar is Way Harder' #learnjapanese

Sometime people think something is difficult just because it's explained with difficult word they never heard. When it's pretty simple.

I vastly prefer the Japanese word for transitive/intransitive verbs 他動詞(たどうし) and 自動詞(じどうし) literally other verb and self verb, referring to whether the thing does the action itself or if someone does the action to the thing

It's not even transitive/intransitive definition in Japanese too. It's 他動詞 - "others move" and 自動詞 - "self move". So if Japanese kids can understand difference between 止まる and 止める without knowing what "transitive" and "intransitive" means - you can also :). Also there is a couple of verbs, let's call them "exceptions" when Japanese version and English versions have different "transitivity". So it's better to learn them as 他動詞 and 自動詞 right from the start to avoid confusion :)

A transitive verb "can do" something to something else. An intransitive verb cannot, "just is".

Well, it's just me, but I find it helpful to know grammatical terms and do the comparison: oh, it's in English, too . And my native Polish. Okay, this form doesn't exist at all (like adjective conjugation), so I need to pay special attention to it to grasp it correctly. But if someone feels they are okay without knowing what's what and just can use those structures - good for them.

The difficulty comes remembering which is which on the fly, thinking about it, then having to rehear it again for me.

It really doesn't seem that hard, once you've got used to Japanese verb conjugation which in itself is harder if your language doesn't use verbs like that.

Well how do you differentiate between やめる and とめる

how do you use “じゃ” as a particle? i’ve seen a few sentences with it at the beginning. like “おはしじゃ食べれません”

You don't need to know the theory behind the language just how to us it. That's how I know my native language too, no ideea about the fancy theory behind 😂😂😂
