Cap a foot long piece of uponor pex pipe full of water and throw it in the freezer. You’ll appreciate the cross hatch technology on the thaw.

Some of the parts suppliers used a band similar to these for radiator hose clamps(automotive). Heat caused them to shrink, so the theory was that they would constantly tighten when the engine warmed up. Great in theory.... Not so on application. They sucked.... Some only worked for a while then either leaked or the hose popped off under the pressure. Most always seeped little by little...

What's better than soldering and plastic rings on a wirsbo fitting? Propress fittings and using rigid tools!

I normally leave it in about 7 times once it is past the o ring.

What's with all the people saying pex leaks? We've been using this stuff since wirsbo was making which was like 20 years ago. None of it has leaked, the only pex we've replaced that leaked is that crimp band garbage because it froze and stretched the crimp band and since it's metal it didn't contract like the plastic ones would when it thawed so it started leaking. If you're having problems with this stuff you're obviously installing it wrong.

Is it supposed to shrink back by itself, or do you need another tool for that?

Actually these are terrible in the cold weather. They don’t go down over the fitting well and you have numerous leaks. You have to take a heat gun and heat up all the joints so they will seal. Just stick with pex. Plumbing for 15 years and there’s a reason we don’t use Upanor in the cold
