This video saved my dog’s life. I have a Goldendoodle recently diagnosed. The vet missed the diagnosis. My dog was in renal, failure and his BUN was elevated. His potassium was also high. He was lethargic and vomiting. He also had eye boogers. I asked the vet to test him for Addison’s. He thought it was distemper and was about to put him down. The stim test came back with Addisons and thanks to this video he is now alive and well.

My teacup 3# poodle was diagnosed with Addisons in June. Had emergency surgery in April for pyometria and then became ill 11/2 months later. Couple vets with no answer. She was dying. After 1 week in doggy ICU by accident got decadron improved a little came home got worse. Dr not able to figure out what? She was dying not responding and I prayed vet would figure it out. Early Sat morning vet called and he thought of something. I took her in and he gave her Zycortal injection. She improved and still showed ataxia but able to be continent. Took her to vet daily and finally now I give her monthly injection of Zycortal and daily prednisone. She has gained a lot of weight from prednisone, fur is now very thick and lots of eye drainage. If he hadn't called she would have been dead on Sunday. Was not able to do test because she was dying. Was no time.

Thanks for the comments. I'll try and film a cushings patient. Sorry about your friend. These diseases are emotionally tough for us

Just spent $1100 to check for Addison Dx. Came back WNL. There’s no way I would spend 3-4K a year to keep my buddy alive. Vet costs are out of control.

Nero came in with a severe acute case. Easier to diagnose than when it is vague and the symptoms come and go.

You can put a few ounces of bone meal or leave the bones in to soften. A multi vitamin can be added also

What a great vet you are....my dog had that for a long time and they couldn't figure it out.

Thank you for making this my dog isnt ill as far as I know but she is half standard poodle and has been drinking a bit more water than usual. She has no other symptoms so she might just be playing harder than usual and the air has been pretty dry cause we've had the heat on which might have her thirstier so Im just going to keep a close eye on her for now. Its comforting to know some of the things to look out for, so if she seems to keep drinking excessively or gets any other symptoms I will have her checked out.

Thank you so much for educating us on Addison’s. My Naturopath wanted to put him down for kidney failure. All is well now. Thank you.

Socialize him as much as possible with different people at their homes or outside your home. That will help

Thank you for this video. Our vet suspects Addison’s disease for our dog. She is a beagle/German shepherd mix and is just about 4 years old. She started being weird about eating food then was unable to hold down water without vomiting and got really weak. She stayed overnight and I am trying to learn all I can.

My shih Tzu x Koda had the opposite of Addisons. He had Cushings disease which made excessive cortisol. Our vet suspected Cushings after he was on thyroid meds for 2 years prior but kept gaining weight n lost his tail hair. He was given the ACTH response test and it was high for cortisol.
Koda was put on Vetoryl 30 mg twice daily but the disease eventually took its toll despite the meds. He passed away at age 6 due to enlarged heart failure. Hope to see a Cushings vid done if possible Doc.

Unless I'm mistaken, it looks like his GLU is low on that Chem report. I had a severely Addsonian-looking Cane Corso come in the other day.

Dr. Greg, my 6.5 year old frenchie has atypical Addison's. I notice that you mention that this poodle has "eye boogers". Is this a part of Addison's? My frenchie also has a ton of discharge from his eyes, which he seems to have only gotten since the diagnosis. Usually his tear staining is controlled through good nutrition. Thanks.

My male golden was just diagnosed with addison’s after he lost mobility first in rear legs then in front legs. This disease mirrored so many other diseases. Once we got him on the right meds he got his mobility back very quickly, and is now playing with toys and our other 2 golden doodles. My biggest concerns is he is urinating quite a bit when we let him out, is this from the prednisone 5 mg, he is 75 lbs?
He is on the monthly injection.

Oh man poor doggie. Dr. Greg, you are awesome and I watch all your videos. They are so interesting. I have a question. My dog is scared of vets touching him, he pees himself everytime one touches him. Is there anything I can do or any "drug" to give him to calm him down?
