Great video. I'm definitely guilty of not shooting enough - it's either "ok, an hour's more footage" or lunch. Lunch always wins, which infuriates the guys in post-production. Which is also me.

3:36 The direction of moving across the screen also mimics how we read books. In the Western world left to right movement can infer a positive feeling, whereas moving right to left can infer a negative one. The same goes for the subject moving down or up within the scene. Moving down is in sync with gravity which feels easy, whereas moving up is fighting gravity which appears difficult. The consistency of movement applies to the camera movement too in a sequence of shots, keeping the same direction flows from one shot to the next but if you were to change it then it would break the mood.

My dad says “to have enough you need too much”. He’s referring to food or wine, but I think it can apply to B roll

Every time I watch tips on video production, I'm always struck by how completely parallel it is with audio production. Same kinds of mistakes, same tricks for keeping the brain engaged, same techniques for creating and maintaining focus and telling a story. Gotta love art!

To be honest, we don't need any more footage of people walking into coffee shops. LOL

Maybe you don't care about me, but I was offended last time, I totally flip over to me today, been creative its what's make the difference. Big surprise Matti.

SHOOT and THINK in Sequence. This is what most forgot while shooting. Thanks for this matti!

Sometimes I have made directional shot mistakes, but I find it fun to edit them into working.

NOT SHOOTING ENOUGH is so true. There always comes that moment when I think "I have plenty of b-roll". I have learned after that thought, I need to double it. Great tips

This was very helpful! I learned a couple new tips on this that I am going to put in my videos immediately.

Background lighting is very important, dare I say equally important to the facial illumination. The key is in the little things. I don't know how much video noise (if any) was cleaned in post but when you turned off that key light the quality was dope. You have a very decent (leaning towards impressive) camera. It seems we have similar taste in how the lighting of a room should be. Not to strong, from the side, which allows a soft naturalistic shadow to fall on your face and basically look like a better version of natural lighting. I call it "Twilight Lush". It's as if we're in the room with you not on some TV movie set.

Wow I really needed this reminder today. Definitely falling into the trap of "pretty pictures" lately instead of complete actual thought. I need to go out and practice more.
