Why the Ferrari 599 6 speed is the ultimate modern super car

Modern super cars have almost everything a passionate driver could ask for, they are comfortable, luxurious, and have more power than the average driver will ever realistically be able to utilize. However there is one thing that most modern sports cars are sorely lacking in today's market, a manual transmission. While 600++ horsepower combined with ice cold A/C and beautifully penned body lines are more than most people could ask for, to the true enthusiast there is still one thing lacking, and that is the feeling of shifting through the gears as you blast down the road. The Ferrari 599 marks the end of the manual era, with only 30 6 speed cars ever produced by the Factory. These 30 cars have become extremely desirable to collectors today, with examples selling for over $700,000. The featured 599 in this video is not one of the factory 30 cars, but rather one of 2 conversions done with original Ferrari parts to exactly replicate the original. It drives and looks just like a factory Ferrari 599 6 speed, but at a fraction of the cost. Not only does it give the driver the pleasure of clinking through the gears of the gated shift, but this 599 also comes well optioned with the full carbon fiber interior accents along with the stunning Grigio over Cuoio color combination. To make this car even a bit more special it is extremely low mileage with only 1,200 miles on the odometer, meaning it is in excellent cosmetic condition. There is not much more a driver could ever ask for from a Super Car today.

I love the manual transmission. With all the computers and electronics on cars today it's like the car is driving you instead of you driving the car. Also a well built manual transmission will just about always outlast and be more reliable than any automatic. If you ever have to have a repair done on one of these dual clutch automatics be prepared for a very bad case of sticker shock when you get the bill.

Yeah, there it is, the epitome of the modern era Ferrari right money was no object, this would be the ultimate car for me, it is a super nice colour combo, I do also like the darker to see your passion coming through in this video.
Hey Colleen you were were referring to normal 599 transmissions as automatic, and to be fair, in a way they are, although not in the traditional sense, but for those watching who are not familiar with the Ferrari F1 transmission system, they are actually the same 6 speed transmission as what is in this car, they even have the same single plate dry clutch, the difference is the clutch and gear shifting being operated by the computer controlled hydraulic actuator system (IE; F1 system) which I know you are probably quite aware of, and yes, I feel I share the same opinion that they are a bit "lurchy" especially in auto mode, it was not until they went to the Dual wet clutch type transmission such as what is in the 458 and onwards, that the shifting became quicker and a lot smoother. Having said all that, I have driven a few Ferraris with the F1 type transmission, F355 and F430, they can be fun, but at the end of the day, you cannot beat the gated shifter, be 5 speed or 6

I absolutely love the 599, it's my favourite Ferrari V12 GT from the last couple of decades. At the moment here in Europe, I can only find one original factory 6 speed 599 for sale in Belgium. Asking price: Half a mill!!! Oooof... average asking price for a 599 is 150 grand... yeah, I don't know if it justifies the price, but it must be an amazing drive. Great video btw.

Fortunately, if the switches for the various compartments and lids don't work they all have manual back-ups. I'm not saying you can get manual 599 parts at the corner store, but those 30 manuals also share common parts with various contemporaries, including particularly the manual 612. Many bits are still available from the factory, but you will have to pay for the privelege of getting them. It's then a question of whether the cost of modifying an F1 back to manual makes sense to you personally compared to the increased current value of the car. Either way the 599 is one great sounding car!

I have a 2007 599 GTB with F1 gearbox (obviously) and it's ok, probably about as good as Lamborghini's single clutch in the Aventador. A gated manual would completely transform the 599 and I'm jealous!!
