Why The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is The Car Market's Best Kept Secret

In today's video, we look at the Ferrari 599 GTB. A car I have reviewed in the past and liked a lot - but didn't fall for. Over the last year it has grown on me though and today I think it could be something of a bargain - but I look to ask if there is a good reason why that might be.

Whenever I set my eyes on a "hidden" gem, Jay goes and explains to the world how good it is. Not cool, man, not cool.

I’ve been lucky enough to have had 4 Ferraris. I’ve had the 599 for 13 years and I’m unlikely to ever sell it. Covered over 40K miles mostly long journeys in Europe. Maintenance costs have been excellent and way less than the 355 and a lot of other "ordinary" cars. Only problems I have had relate not using it over winter ie sticking brake pistons; so now make sure it gets a run every couple of weeks when the weather allows. Think of it as a hugely comfortable, capable GT and you won’t go too wrong. F12 and 812 just aren’t as comfortable and have too sharp steering. Great review though and wouldn’t argue with anything other than comments on the rear view. It was the rear view that sold it to me when the covers came off on the launch night. Buy one! But not mine 😂

I have always liked how it looked. The flying buttress wins for me.

As someone who's been lucky enough to own a number of Ferraris and to have driven about 20 different models or so, the only one I haven't connected with was my friend's 599 HGTC. Seating position is too high, and for a 2 seater V12 you're just not that connected with it. Stonking, beautiful engine. Hugely capable. But ultimately a bit "meh" for me. Hard to know why. When I got back in, I bought a 550. That model always connects with me when I drive it and even after 75, 000kms and 15 years of 550 ownership it still makes me smile. So nothing against the 599 (except humongous bills when the F1 gearbox rams in a gear and the synchros happen to be a bit off), it is just not quite the car for me. But of course at current prices it is a bargain and I wouldn't recommend against buying it. Just be aware of the gearbox issues. A lot of rebuilds happen and 25k bills are not unheard of.

The 599 is one of those cars which has aged pretty well for me. I initially really didn't like the looks, but they really have grown on me quite a bit. Also I always keep forgetting how powerful these things are especially within the time period when they were released.

I've always thought the 599 looks fabulous, including its rear end. I'll never forget one passing me on the French Autoroute at highly illegal speeds. Awesome.

As a 25 year old I grew up with this car being the Ferrari pinnacle and I would love to one day be able to just drive one for an hour. Not the prettiest but to me it is timeless elegance.

IMO I think this is one of the most beautiful Ferraris out there still. Absolutely stunning and different

being a teenager during the 2000s, this thing was one of the rare Ferraris that I was very much into(The F430 being the other).

I think the 599 is great looking from the back

That was the vehicle that did 1.7mpg in Top Gear’s 1 gallon race.

I've had my 575 for 8 years now and still love it. Sure, every year I consider changing up to a 599...initially I wasn't a fan of its design but I've come around. But I've heard stories about early cars wiring issues so that's a concern. And whilst it has the Enzo engine I just don't need more horses..515hp in the 575M is more than enough. There's no unlimited autobahns in Oz. Then there's the fact that 599s have jumped at least A$100k in the last year here. I still prefer the looks of the Maranello. It's a true classic with its 250/275/365 design elements. Who doesn't love twin rear lights. They only built just over 2, 000 of the 575M, so its the rarest of all the modern V12s, other than the specials. And the F1 box is great once you get to know how to drive it. It's definitely not slow in manual mode. Yes, I've had to change the F1 pump and fit a new clutch, at 58, 000 kms! And I've just put the car through the premium service at considerable cost. But I plan on keeping it until they won't let me drive anymore.
Great review James, as always.

this is actually my dream supercar, throw a pair of Brilliant 6-1 headers on there, do the manual swap with that new kit that just came out, and it cannot be beat at any price for sound and driving experience

I drove the 599 V12 GTB on two occasions, in Maranello. Both just 10 minutes rides, with a co-driver, it was really some great experience. These short time rentals does it for me, also very accessible and feaseble on a small budget.

I always loved these because it looks like a bigger, badder 90's-era Japanese sports car and I love the general styling cues of those cars. And It just has a look and layout (aside from the tech) that suggests Ferrari actually wants you to daily the car. Which I like. I'm not in a position to own or really even drive Ferraris, I've only sat in a few at an Italian festival and been around tracks in a couple. So I can't speak from any real experience with the car. But aesthetically, it's one of my favorite ferraris

I've always thought the 599 was an incredible car. I prefer the looks to a Maranello or an F12 (I must be odd?) and that Enzo derived engine? Need I say more? Fabulous....

I think the looks of the 612 have aged very well. It is elegant. And the 599 is up there with their best looking cars IMHO.

After living with a 599 for a year, I can say it's a very accurate review James. Well done.

I'm 193cm and am able to fit in a 599; wasn't an issue when I was in it for the best part of an hour. I also daily a Fiesta.

Mind you I also squeezed myself into a Suzuki Cappuccino so take what I say about fitting in cars with a grain of salt.

While i think the trunk area looks pretty weird i love the single tail lights. They look great imo. Growing up in the early 2000’s this was one of my favorites. I loved how the gto and xx could be optioned with the black contrast tops. Looks way better that way
