In this video, I discuss the differences between a recovery seed, a passphrase, and a pin code when it comes to Bitcoin hardware wallets.

Pin codes function in a way that is similar to your phone, preventing unauthorized access. All good hardware wallets will not allow unlimited pin attempts, but will instead brick themselves after a certain number of attempts.

Matt, hope you can record a video series that can basically serve as a 'tutorial' for loved ones who has inherited BTC and needed good knowledge on how to off ramp safely. This is in case we bitcoiners passes on and need to ensure our loved ones can benefit from it. I'm thinking to download those videos to somewhere they can view when we're gone. Hope the video will be easy to understand, and not jargony. God bless and you are a shining light in this community. Thank you.

As always, thank you, Matt.
Question: I know there isn't a realistic chance of someone/someone's computer guessing a specific seed phrase, but how likely is it that a super fast computer running through all the possibilities can guess a seed phrase that unlocks some random person's bitcoin?

You’re absolutely right about people. Intellectual laziness is true. I told my friend you won’t buy it at 5000. You won’t buy it at 10, 000. You won’t buy it at 40, 000. But you will buy it at 200, 000. Why the hell would I do it at 200, 000? I told him by that time reality will be punching you in the face, you will see how good Bitcoin is and how high inflation gets

Great 2013 info but still important. Cant change BTC best practice. Really good info straight to the point. I have a ledger since I cant remember so I'll have to look your video but i guess is about the update they mention, but I dont want that new "feature"/backdoor on the ledger. about my seed, is interesting mine tells a random story from only 2048 words. :) also Like phrase "the 2nd amendment tools" we all need them

Have you done a video on the Seed Signer?

Thanks for the warning that hardware wallets “self destruct” after X number of PIN attempts. I hadn’t realised this.

An even better idea than a metal plate are bolts, washers, nuts and a stamping kit.

yes I feel like this was to answer my previous question. and further, how would one "PRACTICE" learning how to use the 12 or 24, secret fraise words

Eventually I'll upgrade to a cold card and probably also a jade. My brother in law once gifted me a ledger for Christmas but kindly told him to please return it since i have no use for that one😊

FIPS USB drive (physical key pad) with a keepass (open source) database on it is not a bad place for a seed phrases. Storing the pin and password for those items in the cloud gives you resiliency without compromising security

I have my Bitcoin in a vault deep under the Swiss Alps in absolute cold storage, completely under my own control, and dependent upon no companies or products at all. Every time a security scare comes out re self-custodial Bitcoin I realize the advantages of my decision. There's something truly beautiful about pure 256 bit physical Bitcoin. A few Perl and Python programming skills come in handy too.

Thanks. I was wondering how many bad attempts to lock up a hardware wallet.

I've seen a new hardware wallet being promoted - the Foundation Passport I think it's called, together with its Envoy app. Styled like a mobile phone. Looks neat - any thoughts?

So, any alternative to metal plate seed backup?
