Something to take into consideration is that external hard drives are still susceptible to vibrations, if the intended use case is to carry them around BIG USB style, an SSD is heavily preferable (from an endurance point of view, performance improvements are something else).

I've personally only owned WD and segate drives to use as expansion for video game console, had luck with endurance none have failed (5+ years), but my WD ended up performing considerably better at install/update game operations (about the same in game load times)

Hello sir, whats your opinion on getting transcend over seagate. I have only used wd elements (old version) before and it lasted me nearly a decade. Until it stopped because of my mistake (slight moisture absorption from my water bottle). So i was planning to go for seagate. But i also found recently that transcend comes with a silicone casing for drop and other protection. I understand you might haven't used transcend hdd but can you please still guide me on what should i go for as an elder. Will be helpful. Thanks. ❤

I will go for Seagate, because over the period if the outer body cracks our damages we can teardown and use as internal HDD.

I have a 2TB 1GBPS SanDisk extreme SSD... It is enough for any 1 project that I work on a time ... I need a cheap external hard drive to store other files for backup. I am looking for something that is 4-5TB and is best in terms of reliability... I don't need speed or looks ... Just durable, safe for my data and compact if possible.

But it is so slow boss. I’m transferring 700GB right now and it says will take another 5 hours. For external drive, better to go with SSD. Will only take a few minutes.

I once had a Seagate hdd that got corrupted in just the 2nd year. But from that time I am using 3 wds each of 2tb, one is 5 years and others of 3 years each, and none of them even showed signs of getting bad.

So, if you are using these for the long term, may I know how long ? Has anyone one of them ever had any issues ?
