Heaven has gates to prevent demons such as Lucifer and sinners from getting (back) into heaven because it's gates only open to people who have earned it

In my understanding the gates are for our minds more than anything, considering it would be too hard for our mortal mind do understand the infinite vastaness of heaven God made a "begining" marked by a gate so that we can make heads of it.

Like with the saying "God made everything in seven days" We can' never truly understand the real notion of time of God since he's above concepts as time, so he said seven days so as to allow our mortal mind to make sense of everything.
