My mate fitted a RB head on to a 2J block and fitted it in his civic. Now his VTEC kicks in at 11000rpm. He told me the other night in the pub. I was well impressed

2JZ - Goku

RB - Vegeta

This is the truth - but I respect them both.

So Jesse was right, the 2JZ does decimate all! 🍻

2jz is quite genius, having bores Siamese makes the block shorter, stronger, lighter, which makes the crank shorter and less prone to flex. 2jz is a little tank.

Another great video:) Even as an RB fan, its no question after seeing this that the 2JZ block is far better engineered and superior in almost all areas. Both thicker in the important areas and 23% lighter. Hats off to the Toyota engineers from the 80/90s.

2JZ is indeed an over engineered engine, stock was around 300hp yet it can stand a 1000hp or more, RBs are are still awesome but what make it shine is the platform Nissan made for it

Barra and BMW I6 would be awesome. Please consider keeping this video series going. Very cool.

2:33 FYI, the flow rate of tubes does not double with a doubled diameter; it's related to cross sectional area, which is way more than 2x.
Cross sectional area:
RB = 3.14*[(7.97mm/2)^2] = 50mm^2
2J = 3.14*[(15.5mm/2)^2)] = 189mm^2

Imagine what you could do with that engine using overnight parts from Japan.

I love these videos, good to see facts used to bolster the argument. As much as I'm a Nissan fan, I have to admit the 2JZ is better made product.

This is solid information, thanks for the videos.

And can we please get a comparison of the Gallo 12 vs Gallo 24 blocks next?

6:14 "You might as well grab a micrometer." Pulls out digital calipers, lol.

Well damn I really wanted to be on the side of the RB but the 2j's got it beat in every way.

I'm actually surprised PRP is so happy to share their findings, being as I can only imagine the test equipment and time taken was a substantial cost. Kudos. Thanks to Motive team for the work on the video too.

I’ll have you know that my brother’s cousin’s uncle’s nephew’s boyfriend’s cousin’s brother’s sister’s mechanic’s internet blog is gonna have something to say about this……

I wish someone in the states would do stuff like this with the GM Gen III/IV small blocks or even just comparing different engines in a factual, scientific manner. Keep up the great work!

Thank you, excellent comments. The bore pitch of the JZ is 92mm, of the RB 96.5mm. I've calculated the actual journal overlap (the enclosed area of the intersecting lens) of the 2JZ (stroke 86mm, rod 52mm, main 62mm) at 5.53 square inches, and that of the RB30 (stroke 85mm, rod 50mm, main 55mm) at 3.25 square inches, a huge difference. Coupled with the greater overall length, the 2JZ crank is much stiffer.
