It's realy popular comment, so we decided to answer to all "you won't parry 160# warbow arrow" posts. The answer is: sure, we won't. But it's not a topic of this film.
One more time - it's not experimental archeology, and it's not made in any scientifical manner. It is just a fun project that we made on our summer fencing camp.
What's more it's based on The Witcher books, where there is a scene with Geralt deflecting crossbow bolt. It's fantasy world, with superhero-like character (ok, witcher is not a superhero, but he surely does have "superpowers"), and it has no sense, to do serious experiments on this basis.
Sure, maybe someday we'll do more serious project, with more historical correct bow draw weight, some faster and smaller arrows etc., but this is just having fun, and doing some cool (and, as we believe, interesting) stuff.
And no, we're not saying "sure, knights were deflecting arrows with their swords", but "in some situations and with great amount of luck it's possible, so it for sure has sense for the witcher, to deflect the arrow with his ultranatural abilities".

Guy with 17 arrows in him: "Haha, see I deflected that last one " drops dead.

Just spend a few more points so that arrow can be deflected back to the attacker

And that is why shields were invented .

I always found that rolling towards the archer was the best way to get close, especially with the temporary invulnerability when rolling : )

Mind you, Geralt was also deflecting a crossbow bolt. Let that sink in.

Witchers are mutants that have heighten senses & reflexes, which enables them to easily parry or deflect an arrow.

that honest to goodness look of joy on the guy's face as he runs at his colleague, sword raised about his head.

This is how you end up taking an arrow to the knee...

The padding makes it fair, you don't have witcher reflexes.

Fun experiment ! The padding is obviously required for safety reasons but pretty much disparages the credibility of whole experiment, the padding greatly reduces the speed of the arrow as well as making for a much more visible missile and a larger contact surface. Very fun vid nonetheless, glad this popped up in my notifications ! Cheers 👍👍👍

I think the padded arrow head is a huge factor in fencer able to deflect arrows. Because I believe you cant normally see a pointy arrow THAT clear when it fliess toward you, and plus if you dared to run toward an archer with a longsword, most likely you are wearing a helmet with visor.
