You don't make it from 1977 to 2024 without some serious skills. That's a gorgeous looking tonkatsu, looking forward to all the rest!

to anyone else who thought he was joking/exaggerating about the hijiki: “Concentrations of total and inorganic arsenic were measured in a total of 31 samples covering five varieties of seaweed (arame, hijiki, kombu, nori and wakame)…Arsenic was detected in all samples. In most cases it was present in organic forms, which are not thought to represent a significant risk to health. Inorganic arsenic, a form that can cause cancer, was only detected in the nine samples of hijiki seaweed tested. Consumption of hijiki seaweed would significantly increase daily dietary exposure to inorganic arsenic. Consumers are therefore advised not to eat hijiki seaweed.” (food standards agency, 2004) holy shit lol

Like how he was scared of the miso soup moving but said "yay" to the arsenic. 👏 😂

It’s wild how much history Japan has even in these kind of restaurants.
I live in Korea, Seoul. and here, anything that’s been around silence like 2010 is considered a well established brand/restaurant.
I came back from my first trip to Japan like 2 weeks ago and you really feel the difference in the age of the country itself and the culture

We were here by your recommendation today. We had the crab and cheese katsu set and shrimp+pork+chicken katsu set. It was delicious! And extra miso, rice, toppings, natto are all free. Definitely a great place, thanks. BTW, the ACE katsu Which you put in S tier is closed today, We don't know of it will open up soon

Your mom would be proud of all the servings of fruit and vegetables you had in one sitting.

Carrot salad dressing.
Red and purple cabbage.
Something green in miso soup.
Extra slimy okra.
Hijiki (w/arsenic).
Pineapple jello.

You’re all grown up.

“My miso soup was moving as miso soup does” — it’s these little gems of microscopic truth that keep me coming back, JE. 😔👌🏼

Uhg I want tonkatsu so bad. It’s impossible to find good Tonkatsu in the US, so it’s usually what I eat most when I go to Japan 😂

You shohld go to Mange in Maikodai, number one rated tonkatsu on Tabelog and it's incredible. Very busy and a bit expensive but the tonkatsu is truly insane

There was a restaurant in NYC called Dojo that had a fried hijiki tofu sandwich/platter & came with a carrot tahini dressing & man this video made me nostalgic for it.
