Just did this on my 2011 Tahoe. Your video made it easy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Thanks for the video. I used a small chisel to get the old ones out. When I had it separted it a little, I needed something a little thicker. I took a small hex key wrench and tapped in into the sides. This caused the old one to pop out. To get the new ones in, I tried tapping the first one in with the 21mm socket as suggested. It tore the boot. For the other three, I used my vice and pressed them in using a small piece of wood as a spacer to avoid direct contact with the rubber part against the metal vice. . It worked perfect and did not damage the rubber boot.

I did my 2016 Silverado fronts last night, boot was shredded, pin was seized bad.. did a new bracket when I couldn’t figure how to do the boots… today I did the rears and found this video- thanks for saving me an extra trip out and money! Replaced all 4 boots on the rear brackets <10 min. Great advice!

Thanks for posting. I'll add that a paint can opener is literally perfect for pulling the rubber sleeve out.

I just did this and used a 13/16 spark plug socket (which more people might have already!). Lots of room inside for the boot, and the open end is nice and smooth so as not to beat up the rubber. :)

I just destroyed 2 boots then got on youtube. What a pain in the ass to get them back in. Hope the 21mm works. Thank you

Freeze the boot in your freezer for a few hours and place the bracket in the sun. Will slide right in.

does the front AND rear caliper have the long rubber insert inside the pin hole?

I used a 3/4″ copper slip coupling for plumbing instead of a socket. The socket is too thick and the copper fitting is not too thin that it deforms under hammering.

What year Silverado are we talking? I've searched high and low online and can't source that inner portion that you removed with a pick for my 09 1500. I can find the boots, pins, bolts and anti rattle brackets, nothing else.

I don’t have that problem, the brackets bolts are stripped! I have tried everything!! It’s time to grind them off

My new bracket was way too tight like they didn’t machine it at all so had to grind it out lol

You got to screw a few of these up to figure out how to do it right

this factory boot style / bracket is absolutely garbage.

Pro-tip when you use the screwdriver to start working around the pressed in boot start with a small screwdriver and as soon as you get a gap around the whole unit switch to a thicker flat head screwdriver and then continue tapping around it pops right out every time
