I felt robbed after watching Searching for Sugarman. We lost 30+ years of what could have been even more fantastic music from this exceptional singer/songwriter…. Heartbreaking…

WOODBRIDGE Been my neighbor for years, and didn’t even know it. He didn’t care for fame at all. Saw him at a laundromat in Midtown Detroit. I didn’t approach him for that very reason, BUT He had the glow. I was privileged to be in his presence while doing my own laundry.❤

Although he'd had a stroke and gone blind, he was still playing. While we will miss the 30 years he was off the stage, we've had the last 15 years thanks to those in South Africa and New Zealand who kept the flame alive. RIP Mr. Rodriguez!

Sixto Rodriguez passed away on August 8th, 2023 ... the world had lost his music back in the 1970s when he stepped away from performing. It was nothing short of a miracle that he was 'rediscovered' and we got to hear his music again ... and now he's gone ... this time forever 💔💔💔 Rest in Peace sir, you will not be forgotten again .... 🙏🙏🙏😢😢😢 love from Canada 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁

I was surprised when I came to America 24 years ago that my husband had never heard of Rodriquez. I grew up listening to his music in South Africa and never knew that he was unknown in his own country. Very sad but he left us his incredible music Sugarman is every bit as good as Tambourine Man. Rodriquez was South Africa’s Dylan.

His documentary was terribly sad. When I met my late husband in 1976 he had just return to South Africa from the Angolan war . He was 18 yrs old. He brought a caset tape of Rodriguez back with him. We used to cruise around in his Alfa saud listening to his beautiful music. Happy days during the 70s and BEAUTIFUL music. So sorry this man was not treated with the respect he deserved.

I only saw his documentary, Searching for Sugarman, a month or so ago and shed a tear of happiness for what those Sth African people did to maintain and grow this man's legend and bring him to us. Have re-watched it 4 times with a few different people and shouted his name and music from the rooftops since. Never sold out despite his latter, deserved success. Genius urban poet and musician, beautiful, humble human being who knows the true secret to life - it's what you give.

Another powerful fact about Rodriguez is that his cultural heritage from Mexico is overwhelmingly indigenous. That just adds to the epic story of why this great man matters.

As a South African, this man, so incognito, is the ground under my foundations.

RIP.. Sugar Man Sixto Rodriguez. 그늘진 바위 밑에서 햇빛으로 다시 나오신 모습을 담은 영화 슈가맨. 멋진 라이브 공연. 영원한 빛의 나라에서 편히 잠드시길 빕니다.
