With the server file downloaded, create a “Minecraft 1.20.1 Server” folder on your desktop and move the file you downloaded to it.

For your friends to join your Minecraft server, you will need to port forward. This can be done by opening command prompt and typing “ipconfig”. Get the default gateway and IPv4 address from here. You will need them later.

Next, open your browser and type your default gateway into the search bar and hit enter. This will open login box. Login to your router and locate port forward. This may also be called “Apps & Gaming”. Add a new port forward, making sure to forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols.

After you have saved, the port forward, get your public IP from the link in the description above. This is how your friends will join your Minecraft 1.20.1 server. You may be able to join your server via the public IP, but as long as you can join via localhost, your friends can join via the public IP.

IF YOU WANT TO HAVE ANOTHER COMPUTER IN THE SAME NETWORK CONNECT: you cannot just add the public IP (if you can only join your own server as "local host" for the other computer in the same network you must type in the IPv4 used for the server (the computer hosting/running the server) as the server adress.

Fantastic tutorial, I always come to this channel when I need help with anything related to Minecraft. However, I just wanted to mention that when logging into my router to access port forwarding I did actually need to use my regular wifi password. Just in case anyone else was stuck on the part where he says that you can't use your regular password.

So guys. This initially didn't work for me.
I have found solution mentioned in a looong essay at the end of it, written just in few words as a possible solution.

We have a central router from our provider and I have my own router in my room, because I am too far from the main router.
The problem was, that I tried to port forward from the router I had and not from the providers "parent" router.
After I set up the server pc on the "main/parent" router and tried to port forward, suddenly external Ip seems to work and it seems that everyone is able to join the server.

So, I made the Minecraft server, but I can't get anyone else to join. I went through windows defender and allowed Java, checked my port forwarding to make sure the ip addresses were correct, restarted my server, made sure my Java was updated and used Jarfix, but I still can't get anyone to join.

The tutorial was good for a second then when I typed local host into direct connection it gave me an error saying connection refused no further information.
