Just got the digitakt ii in the post today, and wanted to throw out there: I confirmed that you can perform manual slices from one shot samples on the new digi!

Here’s the method:
1. Make sure your sample is matched to your bpm if the timing is important (using this method 😉)
2. Make chops by setting start/endpoints on your one shot. When you like a chop, save it to as a new preset.
3. Load all of your chops to the preset pool for your pattern.
4. Set trig mode to Preset Pool, and voila: you can play the chops! Press record and play simultaneously, and you can record them into your track.

There’s obviously drawbacks and it doesn’t replace a (hopefully one day forthcoming) slice machine, but it is tenfold better than copy and pasting plocks. If you decide to change your tempo later, you can resample the audio of the sequence you record at the chop tempo, and then stretch that sample.

Hope others find this useful! Let me know if you can improve upon this!

Thanks for sharing. Would be awesome to see more creative ways you are using the Digitakt to make D&B!

You, my friend, have a new subscriber. Your ability to make the Digitakt so approachable is amazing and very rare to find on YouTube.

No LaCroix today! I guess that's for livestreams. Thank for your the tute, it's helped me seat a loop perfectly that I was having trouble with. I wonder what it is about the Repitch algo that fits a loop into a Digitakt seqience better than 1-shot set to loop 🤔 Perhaps because Repitch 'expects' a loop that matches its Bar settings..

This is all dependant on the sample having the correct length with no padding (or other bits of the song) on the end. This is the biggest issue that I encounter when working with unprocessed breaks which needs a computer as there's no quick way of trimming a sample on the DT (shakes fist).

Resampling is an option but you still need to eyeball the endpoint and futz around with the pitch to get it to sit right. The slicing features are awesome (don't get me wrong) but I feel like they went about 90% of the way.

Wow and this feature is only on the digitakt? Would be great on the Octatrack mk2

Could you show this using the octatrak I’m on the fence to what to buy either the digitakt or the octatrak I already have an Mpc live mk2 and the sp404 so want to go as dawless with more experimental but most octatrak videos stem from mocking more techno would be nice to see others genres explored

This is great, Ty! I’m able to repitch/ retempo the break but I’ve watched this several times and am still confused by what you show around 3:50, when you press a few of the individual numbered trigger buttons to play some of the separate slices. When I hit the numbered buttons, I don’t get individual slices- hitting the the button just jumps me to that (empty) track. What do I need to do to manually sound the individual slices the way you demo’d?
