CORRECTION: Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is available as a free update for 3DS and Vita so King of Cards is coming to those platforms (albeit delayed on 3DS), the fighter DLC Shovel Knight Showdown won't be coming to those platforms though as it relies on same-screen multiplayer.

I like the way you guys do GOTYs. I like that you guys take the time you need to organize your thoughts rather than rush to make any rash decisions. GOTY discussions are kind of like a year end post mortem for the state of videogames and quite frankly a lot of crazy things happened this year. A patient and calm reflection can really clarify your feelings of everything that's happened and I tend to find those kinds of conversations more fascinating.

I assume that for many of the gaming outlets, a major reason they do game of the year "early" is to have a clean break, allow people to enjoy their vacations, and then enter the new year fresh. Holding GOTY in january will definitely put pressure on the staff to think about and catch up on contenders on what should be their off time. Sure, you could tell your co-workers to not work during the holidays, but that's like asking students to not study for the finals.

Agreed that Shadowbringers not nominated for soundtrack was the ultimate Snub. That game's soundtrack is incredible - the amount of work that went in to it for a mere expansion of a game is mind blowing.

EZA's complete aversion to anything that could be perceived as a spoiler is such a bummer for me, I get that they get screamed at if they ever say anything but it hampers some conversations down, still the best 2-3 hours of games podcasts out tho <3

"It's not great but I think it's interesting" is kind of all SaGa games when it comes to the general public (although I love them all). Kawazu, the director and creator (also a founding member of Square and the guy responsible for FF2), is a visionary when it comes to gameplay. There are various games in the series, and all of them have their own oddities and are pretty much worth playing. For anyone that's interested, I'd recommend going for Romancing SaGa 3, recently released in all modern platforms. Romancing SaGa 2 and Scarlet Grace are also on most platforms and they're great choices, too.

Palpatine coming back feels like nothing more than yet another nostalgia play. They had no real villain going into to 9, so screw it; toss in the guy from the old movies that everyone knows and justify it later. Honestly, it's going to feel like that to me regardless of however they attempt to justify it in universe.
