Farmers are Ditching Guard Dogs for DONKEYS!?

Did you know that some farmers are ditching their guard dogs for donkeys? There was even a time when a Texas ranch was guarded by eighteen hundred donkeys! But why?

Unlike dogs, donkeys are known for being stubborn and not very smart. Well, it turned out that these guys are the farmers' secret weapons. Donkeys have an innate hatred for wild dogs, foxes, wolves, and coyotes. They just don't want them in their territory!

Heck, even hyenas are not an exception. They would bite and use their strong legs to kick any animal they see as an intruder. Since they are not very smart, there might be some friendly fire. So be sure to train and socialize them with the animals they are guarding.

A single donkey can protect a herd of 200 livestock. The only downside to employing them is that they're only good in one-on-one fights.

Donkeys are very smart, and will not do anything they consider dangerous. That is not stubborness but a survival skill. They are very lovable and loyal.

I worked in a zoo that had several donkeys. I can say from FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE, they are very smart.

My grand parents had several donkeys when I was young. Their stubbornness leads many to believe they’re dumb, but they’re very intelligent animals especially if you take the time to socialize and bond with them. They’re basically giant dogs😂

Donkeys are way more intelligent than most farm animals, including horses, but yeah, when quirkyness hits they're a menace

They are smart and really good at fighting against enemies. Stubbornness doesn't mean stupidity.

People who say horses and donkeys aren't smart have totally been outsmarted by horses and donkeys.

I love donkeys. They're stubborn at times, but for good reasons. They're smart, hard-working, and loyal.

Can you imagine if donkeys and horses weren’t smart? We literally rode them into battle and used them to move ancient treasures 😂 imagine a donkey running off after you strap a bunch of gold to it and never coming back

While both horses and donkeys are intelligent animals, donkeys are often considered to be more intelligent and possess better problem-solving skills than horses.

I know for a fact they’re smart, because they don’t step on your foot until they see you in sandals or flip flops 😂😂😂

There are a few farms that raise cattle in my neighborhood. We have coyote and wild boar in the area and one farm I drive by has several donkeys in his herd.
