I got cleated in the state championship game and had to come out for 3 innings because my hand wouldn’t stop bleeding, I don’t think sliding mitts are unnecessary

Sliding mits look goofy but have a very important purpose they keep your hand from being stomped on and putting you out for the rest of the season

Off topic but I was a catcher and basically there’s this one tall batter like really tall and he was standing very far back in the box and he ended up swinging and he ended up hitting his bat against my arm, and I had to go with the rest of the inning just stopping the ball because I couldn’t close my hand .
