The iconic household plastic container maker Tupperware is looking for new investors, warning otherwise it may not be in business much longer. Stocks in Tupperware took a tumble on Monday after the company announced it is hiring financial advisors because it is unsure about its ability to survive.
Tupperware became a symbol of prosperity after the second world war. The business model was built around in-home sales. In the 1960s and 70s women held Tupperware parties, selling the reusable plastic bowls to family, friends and neighbors. But sales and profits have fallen in recent years although the COVID-19 pandemic saw a temporary surge in success.

if tupperware went to selling online for a decent price, including shipping, i think they could make a comeback. tupperware is really good quality stuff, it's just not easy to find someone selling it.

You know your company is in trouble when the products they make can be replaced by an empty ice cream container.

I always hated being invited to Tupperware parties because it was so expensive, but the stuff lasted decades. I used to have my grandma's Tupperware and it was good as new

Lucky for my family, my mom was a prolific Tupperware sales lady and later a manager for over 40 years. We had a HUGE collection as I inherited all her stuff and even after giving alot to other family members, I'm still stocked for the rest of my life!

This could be the longest lasting company who's only product is being copied for decades in such dimensions that most people talking about Tupperware never had an original Tupperware product in their hands.

I'm 65 and my mother thought Tupperware was exploiting people's social networks.

Til this moment I thought "tupperware" was a generic term for plastic containers. 😳

Tupper has actually good products. I have some inherited stuff from them - so yeah, obviously they do something better than the others.
Even though... how could they not have seen it coming

I am in my 60s, and there were many Tupperware parties around me as a kid.

I have been to a few Tupperware parties but I never bought anything because I didn’t have a household at the time. My mom had some of it. It is overpriced because under the MLM structure the up lines all get a portion of the sales as part of their bonuses. I am happy to see it go unless they changed the way to sell to customers (not a MLM).

My aunt sold Tupperware and she was a machine, even got a minivan from corporate and did it right here in the poorest State West Virginia, my side of the family used Cool Whip and Country Crock containers.

I knew a lot of women who used Tupperware parties for making extra income and starting a small business. I remember going to a couple of them when I was very young. Tupperware wasn't cheap but they lasted forever.
