What would be the best and worst thing to put the thickening agent into?
Also our merch store (shopevanandkatelyn.com) has been revamped and now has embroidered items (hoodies and joggers), sticker sheets, and more coming soon

I used thick it for a person I worked with who had dementia. She was pretty far gone and mostly just stared off into space or slumped over herself. But I misjudged that stuff and tried to give her a drink of thickened juice and it was so thick it didn't even slide down the side of the cup and she burst out laughing hysterically at me. Now that's what I think of whenever anyone mentions thick it.

A little girl I know from when I served in a restaurant used to be on thickened liquids. Mom had the whole thing down to an art... she could use just about any utensil and get the right thickness each time. I got to witness her first full meal without the thick-it! :D She'll be 13 next year!

So in a care setting, we refer to the different levels of thickness as nectar, honey, applesauce, and pudding. The initial cup was definitely applesauce verging on pudding thick, not honey. My residents have told me it's better in cold things than hot, but it's much harder to mix in cold things. I always recommend mixing it using a fork, just to keep it from being lumpy. And I know Evan kinda liked it, but there's a reason we don't use Thick It in regular cooking😅

I love that they were like “9 teaspoons? We should measure 9 times!” rather than just using the other end of their little scoop three times.

Trying to tell the difference between bacon frying and heavy rain would be a fun auditory comparison. I've heard they use frying bacon for the sound of rain in movies. There's one YouTube video called 8 hours of frying bacon that I particularly enjoy.

I remember when my grandma had a stroke and couldn't drink without aspirating and couldn't really chew food. We used thick-it for her water and coffee. I remember one time she REALLY wanted a hamburger so I put one in the blender with some water and then added thick in and we spoon fed it to her. She LOVED IT 😂

What makes this even better is that Evan is wearing an Unus Annus shirt and they drank and made thick water. It was so fucking funny.

Now you guys HAVE to try coffee jelly! I think that’s the next logical step (and it’s an actual thing that’s popular in Japan)

Sodas are absolutely fascinating thickened this way. It makes them taste completely flat, but it sort of preserves all of the bubbles...kind of like the stark opposite of what you want in resin. But very fun to stir and trickle.

2:50 This is so true. The water heater/water pressure in my apartment is terrible, so when I'm showering, the water will sometimes just randomly come out hotter than lava. I can HEAR IT ABOUT TO HAPPEN. I've caught myself instinctively reaching up and moving the shower head away.

A fantastic way to use this (from someone who had to use this on a daily basis): chocolate chip cookie pudding.
Into a Blender add a few chocolate chip cookies with some milk and blend until smooth, add half the amount of thiccenrr the directions suggest and blend for at least 5 mins. Bam delicious pudding

I didn't scroll very far through the comments to see if anyone mentioned the reasons behind its uses in a healthcare setting, but I've seen it mainly used for those with some sort of swallowing problem. E.g. mouth or throat cancers, muscle tone issues, sensory issues, development delays, post-surgery for healing. It's a wonderful product for safety but none of my patients have enjoyed it in anything except desserts or the occasional cold drink. Flavour plays a huge factor too.

Omg this is all I ever wanted from coffee! It always seemed too thin for the flavor!
Thick beverages are my dream! 🤩

You know when you are little and not yet allowed coffee and it seems the greatest thing ever? And then at long last, you get to taste it and it shatters all your hopes and tastes sooo gross and bitter? I thought it would be thick!
Adults used to talk about coffee like oh this one is robust, it's strong, or just soft and round. All adjectives that made me think it would be thick!
Btw I'm 26 this revelation took me about 20 years... I could never put a finger on why it was so different from what I used to dream of.

You should make thick cereal and thick baked beans. Truly cursed. 😂

We use this for patients with dysphasia-nectar thick or honey thick. It’s always so sad when all they want is a cold drink of water and we can’t give it to them -but working in a hospice, we could ask our nurse to give it to them-and my gosh, makes a huge difference. There are so many things that these have to be added to - it always is great to have these videos bring light things people may not think about with our elderly - such as this in every drink.

I think Katelyn's extra thick coffee is what it was supposed to be based off of the instructions. You guys accidentally said 5.5+5.5=9, instead of 11. Maybe the first one was weird because it was at a "between" texture that wasn't recommended.

It might be cool to try this with a sugary, extra flavored milk and see if you can make an "ice cream" that can't give you a brain freeze.

HOT TIP! Put your milks and honey in the mug and microwave it till its hot, then add the coffee on top 💖

you can use that thickener in your blended frozen coffee drinks to make them stay smooth instead of separating into ice and liquid that leaves slush in the bottom of your cup
