You should mix some clear epoxy and sawdust from the darker wood, than use the mix to fill in the screw holes. It would give the finished product a more finished look/ high quality look. The screws holes would be hidden and look better.

one idea i have is to cut a strip 9ff evruthing i use. glue them all togather and till its 1 metre long. then run it thru a planer till ita flush. then divide by 4 to make a frame. revealing as many variations of grains
