I do a 5/32 gap with knife edges, then do a keyhole root with 3/32 @95, then 3/32 @110 fill, 1/8 @115 to flush and then 1/8 @120 to cap. Very new to pipe

Looks like you put a land on the bevel; is that your preference? What gap did you use? Heat? Wire size?

Bob, since I'm not a pipe guy and don't know these things, maybe you can answer a question I have been pondering with all these pipeTIG videos: why would an engineer spec a tig root on steel pipe vs the much faster MIG (solid or metal core) or SMAW root? Particularly if the fill and cap is going to be MIG or SMAW?

5G is hard I’m struggling big time with it

Thanks Bob! Helps out a lot, especially since I'm about to go for a job, that I'm required to do a 6g test for. I have the option of doing either a TIG root or 6010 root. If I can get this TIG Root down it'll be so much cleaner and preferable to do.

Bob great as always. My only question I have is it seems like im always feeding and keeping in front of the puddle im not getting that 1/16-1/8 fill on the root! It’s either I fill way to much to have cold wire or stays flat. It really looks like you don’t feed at all! I know you do but looks very little. I have my temp at 90 with a loose 3/32. Any tips will be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much and enjoy watching all your videos

Having trouble on 5g. Fuses in but stays flush without much reinforcement. Your thoughts on how I can improve.

Did you scratch start or were you using a foot pedal?

Have never been able to get the hang of feeding the rod in through from the opposite side. Wobbles about too much in my hands lol.
I feed it into the inside but from a little bit in front of the pool, feels much more precise to me

If you were using this same size pipe to make a 90 foot high roller coaster for your daughter and her friends to ride on !!!!
would you use
Tig
Mig
or stick
?

What if you take out the filler rod of the shielding gas will the X-ray catch this ??? And do you need to clean the weld to weld ontop of the continuing beat ?? Also do you need to cut of the rod's contermination area, before restart ??? sorry for asking
a lot of questiong but i need to do a 5G test and im a bit to crazy about conterminating the X-ray weld :$
