Why is Fisher saying "silicon dioxide" like "silicone dioxide"? That just makes it more confusing.

And they're both different than a cylicone, which can cause temporal sickness, if not used properly.

Can't we just change the name silicone to something else? That would make things easier.

All excellent suggestions and I have to agree. However why do they continue to just leave it so confusing ?  Because its already done and you cant go back and change a name now ?  Perhaps the second or last compound created could have been simply called " SILIC " then the original element can retain its name of SILICON. As for the third mentioned ( CYLICONE ) Yea I can see a bit of confusion in that they sound the same in pronunciation but the spelling is quite different. Perhaps a chemist would know which one of those 2 were being referred to. Which I am not, I am just interested in chemistry and not familiar with the third mentioned  ( CYLICONE ).

English is extremely confusing language. In French, Spanish, Ukrainian or Russian you will not confuse it. And now Americans call their Silicon Valley and think it's same material as breast implants😂
