I have traveled the world for close to 40 years, and I must say that this show is very entertaining, but not reality!  I can go on and on saying (with authority), as to what things on EVERY show is is just plain garbage!  "Sunset Rubies", I never heard of them, great for TV, but....  Burning that parcel of stones, and having it come out like that (ALL gems, I am POSITIVE they used synthetics for the cameras), absolutely ridiculous!! A bunch of men parading into Kampuchea (old Cambodia) to buy at the mine? Come on, the Khmir Rouge GOVERNS the countryside still, and would kill that group of men walking in their parts of Kampuchea (where all the Pailin Mines are), in ONE SECOND! 
I could go on talking about EVERY show in this series, but don't have the time. The show is entertaining to me, but I watch it as "Based on Reality", there IS something called a ruby, and there IS a real Kampuchea.

Whats so unique about the enhancing color process, its called heat treatment of Rubies, and its pretty common, more than 90% of rubies are heat treated to enhance color and transparency

Heat treatment ruby has less value than ruby without heat treatment. I hope Discovery channel can tell the difference and deliever the correct information to the public. Please don't mislead people that man-made gem is better than natural gem. This will not happen forever.

Any "treated" gem stones are considered worthless, natural gemstones bring in the big bucks, have any stone you buy certified natural by GIA BEFORE you buy, Peridot!

His "cooking formula"... I'd want to have AGL certify these before even touching them. Thanks for continuing the unethical process of treated stones being passed off without certification of process Discovery. Some of these processes create rubies that are essentially worthless in the certified gem trade.

Gems that are heated are okay if you are not a collector looking to make a profit. Real values come from natural unheated gems that already have the shine of those heated gems shown in the video. Heated or not it is hard to tell apart just by looking at it, but the price difference can be up to 10 times more.

Normally when you cut a stone, it reduces the size. But in this case there were more after treating and cutting then before!
