5:14 These grooves are also often called "fullers" in English. I haven't seen any as decorative as seen in these examples, but there is a pretty iconic one on the Ka-Bar knife.

I hope you can answer this, I know this video is three years old. I have a CAS Hanwei Tactical Tanto. Yes I know made in China, but way back before China got stupid. It has a blade length of 28cm, and is very pointed. Now I've been told that the Bohi, or fuller, was there to reduce the weight of the blade, with out weakening the structure. Is this true? It really is a good blade, but I've never needed it, if you know what I mean. Good video and explanations by the way.

why would a tanto not have a signature? unless it was removed perhaps? mumei tanto always raise red flags for me. but wen i found a rusty tanto with no mei for 200$ i bought it and am glad i did as its clearly mino den and is a high quality blade. its a shinto period blade. but i believe it should have a signature. my fav tanto maker is tosa yoshimitsu. evry one ive seen is heavily worn and much thicker than other tanto..they wer used alot! scary blades!
