They should honestly age him up if he were to make an apperance, and include him as more of a mentor figure that won't absorb all the screen time if they don't give him a proper send-off from the series. I haven't kept up with the anime much at all, but if they want a chance to explore new characters then they should focus on making them ones the viewers will appreciate instead of having Ash as a sort of "security deposit" if things go south.

If I'm being honest, fans want to see champion Ash. What will he do now and possibly in a mentor figure. Having AU Ash would be nice but it won't have the same impact

According to the Pokémon Company in Japan, they have revealed that Ash is continuing on his journeys to the Paldea region for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet anime series for Generation 9! And yes, Team Rocket will be there as well!

I mean it makes sense for them to just test out how these new characters and new anime work for the company. If they underperform, it would make sense to go back to the formula that works

They do need to keep him on in some capacity. I know a lot of people aren't excited to see him stay, but a lot of people aren't exactly excited to see him go either. It's a mixed bag of chips when it comes to this. So, like you said, the best way to retain both sides is to still utilize Ash to some capacity, perhaps make him older in the series, only being talked about, or perhaps being idolized by the main characters of the new series, while also following some one-off adventures in special movies set in the alternate continuity. Either way, Ash needs to stay relevant in some capacity to honor old pokemon fans who grew up on the stories he was in, such as the generation who adored X and Y. They may be teens now, but pokemon is a timeless series. It would be sorta ignorant to just throw him away.

Finally we can go and rewatch those one month old videos about ash's daughter and him retiring laugh knowing they got it so wrong, since he'll be forever 10.

Just make him a side character that hits hard every episode he appears. Like a game, where protagonist becomes a side character in a sequel

This is why I've been done with the anime for ages. They just don't let it age -- I mean, that's fine, you can always cater to the same age range, but would love for them to throw more bones for the older fanbase that was there since the beginning.

If they wanna make the anime work they should take notes from Inazuma eleven they had the main character grow older and he mentored the kids on soccer so it wouldn't hurt for them to try that with Ash.

The fact that they are hinting Ash may return may just be their subtle way of covering the franchise's butts. If this new anime bombs for whatever reason, they are leaving the door open that they might just bring back Ash again.

I really do hope that they age Ash up. It has been about 26 years since Pokemon started and 9 Pokemon Generations already so it is physically impossible for one main character to meet so many Pokemon and battle many trainers without aging at all. Normally it takes about 1 year to catch many Pokemon and beat Gym Leaders and the Pokemon League in 1 Pokemon Generation.

I’d try to treat it like how Devil May Cry handled Dante in DMC 4 and 5, have Ash appear every now and then to help out or give some advice, but have the main focus be on the two main characters

I grew up with most of this show. It got so big that my old school had to ban Pokémon cards. To see the ending of this show the ending of Ash and the torch being passed on to a new generation all I can say is “A New Journey Begins”
