California smog test is a scam. Even if your car runs super clean, you will fail if you don't have the OEM parts.

Holy crap. I live in Pennsylvania and we don't do any of that. I have a visual for emissions that's it. If its really old it dont need anything. If you drive less then 500 something miles no emissions Regardless of age. I have a old car I registered it as a antique. No inspection at all for that with a lifetime registration. I can't believe what California does.

I had a ‘99 MB E320, the rear cats started rattling so I replaced them with aftermarket CA legal cats, at the next inspection they said one of the cats didn’t have the right numbers on it so fail. Had to go back to muffler shop and they put the right one on and retest passed. Pretty impressed that they get under the car to look at numbers on cats.

Even if you slightly modify your vehicle or change something on it you have to bend over and for permission to do it. Total BS

Thats why i use OEM Parts. Especially when i work at toyota lexus as an auto parts engineering i dont buy parts just rebuild them.

I personally thing that they should ONLY have an emissions test because if you aren’t polluting then who cares if your car doesn’t have CARB certified mods

I could modify all of this smog electronic and physical devices in the 80's and the 90's but not now. I HATE COMPUTERS....
