The difference between rod and mick is that growl that rod had in his 20s. Micks tone is much purer but still absolutely wonderful. I always thought he had a great rock voice in him behind the MOR bland stuff of much of Red’s output.
However I’ve just listened to the “orchestral” version with rod and time has not been kind to his delivery. That’s a bit unfair because you can’t expect a man on his 70s to sound like he did in his 20s esp someone who sang with so much throat as rod did. Things wear out. !
I can only think of a couple of people who sound as good now as say 30 years ago, Pavarotti? (RIP.) Sinatra? Mariah Carey?
The list of voices that have “gone” is as long as your arm, bono, McCartney, Elton, all still great but they’ve lost something in middle age.
Props to Mick for this great performance. Probably in his 50s. Sounding fantastic.

Glen Matlock gets the closest to Plonk's base line in this rocker, pity they couldn't of stayed together for longer, with Rod or Mick.

A very respectable effort, a bit forced and shouty but a very difficult song to sing, 8/10
