Raspberry Pi Zero 2 FAILS where the Orange Pi Zero doesn't

I was doing a simple file transfer over HTTP with the Raspberry Pi Zero 2, when it failed. I'm surprised by the results and use an older Orange Pi Zero as a comparison. The performance of the two single board computers shocked me.

This may be due to driver maturity or anything on the long list of bugs related to newer hardware. Also your CPU may have been overheating, the pi did not have heatsink, not a good idea with newer revision. An external antenna can be added too, improoving error rate lowering the cpu usage, etc...
This device is very capable when setup correctly but may not have enought ram for media broadcasting using an sd card tough, it's more like a big microcontroller.

I have an orangepi plus 2, one of their early boards, been running as my pihole server since 2016, non-stop, never failed.

Why is there a heat sink on one and not on the other?
You should either try both with heat sinks ( or without) before comparing performances..
Not criticising, just my humble opinion....

I have multiple OrangePi 2s running for years now, without any issue. One of these is even running powered by just the USB port of my little SOHO routerm which got wat too little power by definition. I had to downclock the Orange Pi 2E plus a bit, but it's running perfectlyt fine. The ORangePis stil are said *desite the great wokr of the Armbian team) to not be sufficient, because of a lack of feature/driver suport, but I think that's just for desktop users at max. For unattended and server purposes it's just way better then the RasPi, because of it's lower porice and better availability.

With the current Pi shortage this looks like a great alternative. Accessories such as cases are difficult to find for this device. You're likely looking for someone to 3D print them. That in itself is cool, though. Can't find it? Someone can make it for you. The Banana Pi is mostly Pi Zero compatible but I hear that it overheats to the point of stuttering. That's disappointing because it is also better hardware wise.

hello it is recommended to use the other usb port for power input best regards

Use atop or glances instead of htop to see what's really going on.

$11 for my Orange Pi Zero (slightly used) but it's the 256mb maybe slower? I bought the RPi Zero W ($25 with accessories & Vilros case) that I have up & running but not the OPi Zero needing an OS (what's the best?) so I can put to use.
Any advice? Thanks!

Looks the the Pi thermal-throttled on you. The Pi Zero 2s, in my opinion, need more that a heatsink to properly cool, and your test overheated the CPU.

My opinion Test is irrelevant as you used Ethernet on the second sbc you cannot expect wifi to work as well as a wired connection and as others have said no heat sink on the first sbc (rpi zero w 2) but opinions are like bums everyone has one nice video

I had the same problem with mine. I was installing RetroPie from Network and it locked up.

Did you ever learn why RPI Zero2W failed in this situation?

The test was a fail before it even got started. As with all hardware cooling and proper deployment of software are key to a great outcome. As for the rpi community the software and support is there. As for opi that's were the true fail is little if any support and slow if any upgrades.
