Valley View tornado survivor speaks from hospital bed as her fiancé undergoes spinal reconstruction

Our daughter and family live just east of Memphis TN and I’m so grateful the house they bought last year is 2 blocks from the local tornado shelter and it’s right beside our granddaughters school campus! Being from California in our area it’s earthquakes that are our biggest fear, but I absolutely dread when I hear they have to be under a tornado warning. I feel so helpless knowing how this can strike so randomly in all these areas and usually worse at night! I hope this young couple can recover and have the support they need.

I would like to see every community in our country have storm sirens and at least one community shelter. My area was under threat last night and my daughter and I live in a 3rd floor apartment. At one point we went to the stairwell with our cat. It was scary. I couldn't think of anywhere safer to go to. And we're in a city. It would be nice if the churches opened their doors for people needing temporary shelter through a storm. My heart goes out to the Valley View victims 😔

Tips: when searching wear a mask. Many toxic chemicals could be in the air. Wear gloves, boots, and have first aid kits on hand with blankets and a tourniquet. You could make a difference
