Step two: Profit

Best way to save money is to keep moving up in your career. It's easier to save when you have something to save. You don't have to be the manager, but you can move up levels or even change careers. Don't be afraid to work someplace a year and then go somewhere else for a pay raise.

Want vs Need

Before purchasing anything, wait 5 days. If you still want it, you need it

pay off your mortgage as fast as possible. I saved nearly 20, 000 by paying off my mortgage in 5 years instead of 30. i was hard, i didn't buy anything extra for myself, just necessities, but I have my house paid off, and I saved almost 20, 000. it may not work for everyone, but it is worth looking into.

That one about planting and small gardens is a genius. My grandma has a small-ish garden and we eat the blueberries and sweet peas. Best part? She has two houses and both of them have gardens. When she comes to visit in our town, she still has a garden so she can eat.

Piggy bank. The change and lose $1 or $5 bills add up. I would usually like break it open for Christmas. I did this as a teen and early 20s for me. Now I just give that piggy bank to my kid on top of his Christmas presents. He loves it.

4:12 Yessss. I've had a library card since I was probably 4-5, and I've probably rented out over 1k books since I've got it. Some movies, too, but I mainly read. It's saved me thousands in costs of books, I can have free entertainment, and it's really useful if I need information about a topic and the internet's down because of a storm. I do occasionally get late fees, but the most I've had is under 3$. I usually get around ten books and read them over the course of a couple months, as I can't drive and it's difficult to make time to get my parents to drive me. The late fees are worth it though.

Don't have a social life. That's part of the reason why "away" work (oil fields, mines, up north, etc.) is good money. Yeah, you work like crazy and there's hazard pay, but you also don't have much to spend on out in the middle of freaking nowhere. Once you're back home and can go out with friends, a lot of that cash can get pissed away pretty darn quick.

If you need the smaller package to fit in some place, then buy the large package and refill the smaller ones. At all our sinks we have small bottles of dish soap, that get refilled from the huge bulk one. Same for some spices. A small one at the stove, a large one in the pantry-as long as you have the turnover to use up the large one this will save some real money. And allow a bit of stocking up when a sale happens. We run on a one year pantry, and it is nice when something is used up to go to the pantry and pull more. Plus check out all store brands. Some are surprisingly good. Some aren't worth bringing home but some are. Plus do your own work. Some basic repair and maintenance of the things around you are easy to do and will save a fortune. Edit: add, if buying a tool, go for the better tool. You don't need the absolute best but buy a quality tool... it will save you in the long run, trust me invest in tools. And TAKE CARE OF THEM.

Invest in five things: a Crock-Pot, a large rice cooker coffee maker, Mason jars, and good sharp knife. Saved so much money on that alone. I can eat out if I want but that nice emergency pad of cash is nice.

Going off of the one that talked about store brand products: I save money by not buying much alcohol but if you want alcohol, buy it from Costco. You don't need a membership for alcohol. Kirkland vodka is made by grey goose and is $14 for 1.5L vs Gery Goose being like $70 for the same amount. Same goes with their whiskeys and rums.

I like to save cash by walking into work to save £2 a day on the bus fare and putting any spare loose change I have into a jar at home and then taking all my change to the bank to swap it over. Also, I like to shop around for food to have meals at work and after work (I usually get 6 packs of noodles for £1 and some cheap tinned meat/fish and veg to bulk it out) and I’ve sorted out at least 6 meals for like £2.50 (week works of food will usually cost me around £15 given how much I can get through whilst at work, but my food bill would be so much more if I didn’t go for cheap meals to bulk)

One would have to be pretty extreme to be more frugal than me. But I don't feel deprived.
Other than utilities on autopay, I only use cash. One year I did keep a logbook, tracking every cent. What an eye-opener to see how much and where it goes! When I bought my house I made sure it was within reasonable bicycling distance to work. Then I bicycled it, as well as other around town errands. Re: Mortgage: paid it off in seven years. Every windfall went straight to the mortgage, in addition to paying extra most months. People don't realize how expensive driving is! It is easy to just get used to paying whatever driving costs without knowing things like, how many cents per mile is it for you? Don't eat out much. Once in a while yes have fun. But it's a huge money waster. Unit price shopping: conventional wisdom is large quantities= better value... but that's not always so! Dumpster diving has largely replaced my shopping altogether.
Edit: How did I become the King Of Cheap? After being sued into the Child Suppoort System, I had to for survival. Number One money saver is DON'T TRUST WOMEN WITH CONTRACEPTIVE ISSUES and don't spawn.

buy the off brand stuff, the name brand people make it but slap a different label on it to pad out the shelves.

My dad, he Is so trustworthy, If I'm struggling to save money I call him to tell him how much I want saved, and tell him to not let me touch it till it reaches that amount, he's not rich, he's doesn't have much money at all but I trust him and he always keeps to his promises, he will name my first child, and he helps me achieve my goals, I'm lucky to have a dad like that, ive heard of parent ls who steal money, makes me sick.
