Finally a simple fucking explanation ! i have been searching the internet for hours, they keep giving me engineering explanations..

hands down the most comprehensible explanation! thanks

Why didn’t I just see this video first

No, these are more incorrect and misleading definitions! Horsepower is NOT "torque over time". its torque over time and distance. (aka velocity) . torque does create a force that "gets you going" but the amount of that force is determined by Horsepower. Horsepower keeps you going, is true, but so is torque. HP is the rate of doing work... its the capacity of a cars ability to accelerate at any vehicle speed. Torque is a force at a radius. for a constant hp, wheel torque(forces) will go down proportionally to increases in speed. comparing HP and torque is silly. HP is the cars ability to accelerate at ANY speed. it is the rate of change of kinetic energy, rate of doing work. the most simple and correct explanation of HP Is that it is engine's capacity to accelerate the vehicle at ANY velocity. Wheel Torque creates the force at the wheels that causes acceleration. (engine torque is irrelevant unless you know gear ratios and tire diameters)

Thank you! Thank you! Sir you just hit the nail on the head!

Torque is NOT force, force is force. Torque is force applied at a distance!

If you're an athlete and going to do some training exercise for your body. Basically endurance and stamina is for torque while speed and acceleration is for horsepower. Don't push your brain too hard to understand the math formula guys. And I thank you

Horsepower is simply at max how fast energy comes out of your engine to do stuff. Torque helps you figure out when you're generating power which you use to do stuff.(Like accelerate) A high Torque to horsepower ratio means you generate power early in your RPM curve which is good for acceleration and lousy for fuel economy. Bottom line, torque by itself does nothing.

I would like to see e
E-tron GT or Tesla instead of this diesel. Btw, very good and simple explanation.

This is what I found for 5th grade explanation on troque

The simplicity seems appealing but the inaccuracy is not helpful if not dangerous

So it makes your wheels spin faster??? Is that how wheelspin works.

Finally someone who explains like normal. Basacly simple torque = acceleration horsepower = top speed power. DONE

Great explanation I understand now. Torque is what gets the car moving off road and the horsepower is the pulling power of how fast it will go. I know horsepower. Just wanted to understand torque.

"Horsepower is torque applied over time".... really.... so how much torque a minute do i need to have 100 hp?

So torq is more like acceleratiom and hp=speed?

hell yeaahhh, i surved all the internet and got no best explaination too much physics and all i want to know is answered in this super short video

so torque is the low end and horsepower is the top end?

ronthunders

This is not true. Torque is static force. If it start to move (doing work, force applied over a distance) W = F×d.
It change into POWER.
Power is what accelerate car and keeps you there, not torque.
You cannot feel engine torque from driving seats. Whats you feel is engine power.
It is not becouse I said this. Its because - Physics

you mean Nm is at low rpm, and Hp is at higher rpm?
