How Asperger’s Syndrome Impacts Daily Life (The 3 Secret To Success)

preview_player
Показать описание
This is how Asperger’s Syndrome directly impacts the daily life of people with the condition.

I have my fair share of issues with daily life, but I feel there are some common issues that we on the autism spectrum all share.

I have listed out 3 issues and how to deal with them below.

1.Home Skills
Learning how to work the washing machine, the cooker and knowing how to wash the floor are all super skills that autistic people don’t always understand as easy as non Autistc individuals. So to combat this, you can record a video on your phone or tablet to show how this can be done as a reference.

2.Short Term Memory Issues
People on the autism spectrum have huge issues with short term member, from remembering why they walked into a room to remembering to put a date down for their appointments in their calendars. To over come this use apps like google assistant and Siri to plan and set reminders for you in your notes and calendar apps

3.Following Tasks
Following task list like to dos, and even cooking instructions can be very difficult to grasp for people on the autism spectrum, and can be so hard to understand. Have the tasks written down in emoji or picture format as a visual guide is better to follow.

Please let me know if you have anything to add to this conversation by leaving a comment below. I read every single one! Also follow @TheAspieWorld for more autism content.

Love today’s video. Would love more and more tips and tricks to help with executive functioning. Especially time management. Tooth brushing/ hand washing/ shower/ dressing etc.

Favorite Asperger's story that makes myself appreciate the frustration of those suffering from it....Gary Numan. 80s pop God, his biggest hit 'Cars' was written after an aspergergian episode...someone was crossing the street towards his car while he was driving, he mistook the approach as an approach to him in his vehicle, he jumped the curb and drove on the sidewalk to get away from the would be thug, then went home and wrote the song!! FUCKING AWESOME!!!

Awesome vid as always. Cooking, washing clothes, no problem. I was a chef and I'm single dad so both are okay..ya think..because short term memory problems. Ow yeah..screws me every time, literally time screws me every time. You will not believe how many reminders with notes and alarms I set for just one thing I must do on any certain day. Last few weeks it is going a bit better with appointments but anything and everything else just doesn't go as it's supposed to. It's so frustrating, I am my own worst enemy. Even worse is I fully realise it when screwing myself again. I just can't help it, whatever I'm doing has to be finished first. So before I finish this just one thing....still love the hat Dan. Where did you get it?
Great job, keep going.
Greetings from Netherland

Beng AS/ASD/ADHD/cPTSD and trying to manage chronic physical illness as best as I can, Executive Function for me is very poor indeed - this I found out when I was late-diagnosed, after years of being told I was thick, stupid and slow and people hinting at giving me the sack...
As for coping with working a washing machine, for instance, it depends on the machine itself and how comprehensive the operating instructions are. The same goes for any functioning piece of kit.
Showing my age here, it would take me an afternoon to find my way around how to work a video recorder at home, not to mention their upgrades. I'm not good at asking for help or indeed anything without feeling a whole lot of anxiety and nerves in the pit of my stomach.

That's not all but at least now support and understanding are trickling through to help me cope.

Home skills and reference guides.

I would go one step further. I work in a factory and love Standardized Work instructions.

I would sit down with the video and write out step by step instructions with pictures if needed. Because I get it faster if it's written down.

I set my cell alarm for EVERYTHING lol. One thing I struggle with a lot is cleaning because I get overwhelmed so easily. I'm very "0 or 100" without meaning to be, so I am learning things like "That doesn't mean you have to have every single aspect of the house done today" cos that will lead to me freaking out, shutting down, and not getting anything done at all. The Sweepy app definitely helps but I never know where to start. I desperately want everything organized, I love organizing, but right now everything is complete chaos (I recently cleaned out my art studio of dozens of boxes so I could use the room to foster animals. That's going great but the rest of my house is now a labyrinth of "Might Could Use 'Em"s. 🤪) and I can't see through it to fix it. Any advice please?

I find that I have the hardest time doing chores that are really mundane. I literally almost die from extreme boredom just anticipating doing the dishes. I can't stand doing dishes because they are so repetitive, boring, they gross me out, and they really never end. Some days I put off eating because I don't want to do more dishes. Granola bars for breakfast, and then by lunch time I know that I will have to deal with nothing but mess.

I find that I can completely forget to go to a casual event if somebody invites me to a BBQ for a birthday well in advance, and then nobody mentions it for a couple of weeks (that's how I can sometimes forget things). I totally felt terrible and embarrassed when I was supposed to go to a birthday BBQ (and then it wasn't talked about for 2 weeks) and then my friend invited me to go to the fair the day of, and I thought nothing of it and went with her to the fair. It was only afterwards that I remembered, and I didn't know how I would explain to the other people why I didn't show up. I felt like they were hurt, and I just need to set reminders now.

I think strongly my ex partner had Asperger Syndrome, he struggled a lot with home skills, and short term memory, a little too with following tasks he didn't often read the notes. He told many times that he think he has Asperger traits.
On my side Gifted + Asperger Syndrome (diagnosis in progress) : I have really good short term memory, no problem to following tasks, no problems with home skills. The troubles can mask the potential, and the potential can mask the troubles.
I am curious about your personality type.
