Mark Holcomb, the virtuosic guitarist of Periphery, was once a beginner like everyone. When he was 15 he bought the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone pedal, and so was born a desire for heavy tones and metal maelstrom. Mark talks about how he used the pedal in his youth and how it helped him to imagine himself as a professional musician. Years later, Mark is reunited with the coveted Metal Zone and, immediately, the Metallica riffs start flowing.

Eternal love and respect to Reverb for inviting me into their offices and encouraging me to rock this setup. It was a trip down memory lane.

You gotta love Mark... he's down to earth, with awesome skills and creativity, and doesn't look insecure to the point he has to hide himself behind some kind of "personality"... he's just himself, and I like that!

the Gorilla is Josh Homme's favorite amp. Solid State doesn't mean shit, it's all about how you use it

This guy has the best sounding signature pickup set in the business.

The fact that the tiny little practice amp is miked up for this demo is just the best thing.

So reassuring to see and hear how Mark started out thrashing along with rudimentary gear like the rest of us lowly mortal metalheads!

I have heard people get way worse tones with way better gear.

This thing going through a good EQ pedal and mixing the right tone between the amp and EQ pedal can sounds amazing.

I was at a friends party when i found an mt-2 box on his bookshelf. I immediatly was enthousiastic 'cause it also happened to be his first pedal as well. Anyway he opened the box and pulled out this big chunk of MDMA... and the party went on... and on... and on... :-/

Please do more of these!

Incidentally, my first "rig" was a Danelectro "Black Coffee" Metal Distortion pedal, running into a lil' Crate G10-XL, baby! Then I graduted to the world of multi-effects processors with a Z00M 505. LuLz
