I will always defend Eren with my life. He is one of the best written characters ever. He suffered so much, and was pressured over and over to the limit, and kept going because he wanted to protect the people he cared about. He showed early signs of how his mental health was going to hell, and nobody noticed or did anything, until he reached a point of no return, and desperation drove him to firmly believe there was only one thing left to do. I think it's heartbreaking to see how pain consumed him slowly, until that little boy with a bright smile was no more. He was no villain. Do I think genocide was the best option? No. Do I understand why he felt like it was, and he had no other choice? Absolutely. If you don't understand why he did what he did, you have no heart, and you don't get his character at all.
