BMX 3 Piece Crank Set & Bearing Installation (2 Techniques)

In the first method, you remove the non-drive side locknut and bearing ring which allows removal of the 1 piece crank as a whole unit. If the bearing cups are in good condition, clean out the old grease and apply new grease. Also apply grease to the new bearings and bearing rings along with the new (square taper) spindle. Place the bearings in each of the left side bearing cup and the right side bearing cup. Put the right side with bearing ring already installed onto the spindle in position. Thread the left side bearing ring onto the spindle. Tighten it up enough so that there's no play but not so tight that it is too stiff (hard to turn). Then install the washer and locknut which holds everything in position.

The second method involves sliding the left and right sides of the H515 adapter unit into the bottom bracket shell. Each side is tightened into the bottom bracket shell by means of three bolts slotted into position from the left side. Then a cartridge bearing can be mounted into the adapter and tightened to the correct torque. The cranks are be bolted onto the cartridge bb spindle as with any cartridge bottom bracket unit.

Okay so I have a bike with a 3 piece crank but the frame only has one bearing cup so it won’t stay in place, what do I do?

So one could just use the old bearing cups that are already on the bike? I have the same conversion kit shown in the first method and they came with new bearing cups... in other videos on youtube they would knock the older cups out.
