I have been living in London for almost 10 years and it is now time to move on. Stockholm is the city of choice and I can't wait to explore Sweden. There are so many benefits of moving to Sweden which I mention in this video. I also talk about the pros and cons of London.

The Cold isn't really a problem, the Darkness is. Pretty much everyone moving to (or living in) Sweden agrees on that. Just dress right and the Cold is kept in check (and Swedish houses are very well isolated and heated) the Darkness is much harder to fight.

One of the first thing you should do is to get a personal no(Personnummer) at tax office (skatteverket) it will make everything go much easier. Good luck

I wish you all the best in your new journey! Personally while living in Canada I feel like I have such a great life condition over here but I'm sure that it's the same in Sweden and I must say that Stockholm looks very beautiful 😍

Supercool! It's a beautiful city - been only once but liked it a lot. I lived in Denmark for a year and Scandi lifestyle is definitely everything you mention (and more;). Good luck with the move, Uli!

Thank you for a good video with proper research! In Sweden you go home when your work hours are over. At least for 90% of workers, so yeah, life/work balance is very important. Sweden is ok when it comes to landscape, but Norway sadly beat us there. As a pre-school teacher I am happy you took time too look into our curriculum, my tip for you and your family is to find a smaller pre-school that focus on working in smaller groups (divided groups with up to 7-8 kids in each group) since it gives the teachers more opportunity to see and teach your child. And Dads are allowed to take out more than 90 days, as long as you both do the 90 you can split the remaining 300 anyway you want. Hope you will like Stockholm!

Welcome to November in Stockholm, where it's dark, cold(ish) and rainy. And dark. Once you get snow everything is much better.

I'm a Swedish man who now watched your video and you talked about how Swedes are reserved people. This is NOT completely true but it all depends on where you live or visit. So it is easier to make friends in Gothenburg than in Stockholm BUT I am Kirunabo and live at the top of Sweden and we Kiruna residents are not at all as reserved as in Southern Sweden and you have easier to get in touch with us up in Lapland. Then you mentioned the cold and the snow, so because the world is getting warmer it will not be as cold now as before and if you want to be guaranteed to experience snow during the winter, you have to go up to Jämtland or up to Lapland and then Kiruna, Gällivare, Pajala, Jokkmokk. Then if you and your partner get another child, you have paid leave between 12-18 months, depending on how many days a week you take out parental benefit. You mention, like many others, that it is quite expensive to live in Sweden compared to some other countries. BUT what none of you non-Swedes do not know is that the higher taxes mean that you have lower costs precisely for then, among other things, daycare, which is paid for by tax money. If you often have to visit a nurse, doctor, physiotherapist, maternity care or something else in healthcare, Sweden has high-cost protection. Which means that you only pay a total of SEK 1, 350 in visit fees, then you have the rest of a 12-month period free card and then it costs nothing to visit any of this. If you take medicines that are expensive, then through the tax in Sweden, you also have high-cost protection on prescription drugs and you pay a maximum of SEK 2, 350, after which you have a free card for medicines for the remaining 12 months. The higher tax in Sweden means that you can study for free up to upper secondary school level. The food from kindergarten all the way up to and including high school is free. in Schools in Sweden you have open air days and you can go to various activities, these are free or can be a small fee, as the tax pays this. To understand why Sweden has higher taxes and why it can be more expensive in Sweden, you have to read what this money goes to and what the citizens get for the high taxes.

Well Sweden has the Ice hotel up in the north, and some really cool cabins in trees also up in the nothern parts of Sweden, and well the Archipelago has some amazing places.

It will really interesting to see how you look at our country after you moved here. But I must impose that it is very important you learn the language, even though most Swedes speak rather good English (or Swenglish some call it). And if you already have got a flat / house to move into when moving to Sweden you are in luck. Because it is difficult getting one in Stockholm.

I would say it's not much about the cold but rather the lack of daylight that you need to be prepared to ;-)

I completely agree its totally a personal choice and preference :) I am living in Stockholm since 10 years, but cost of living, taxation, rent/buy house is somewhat high here. I have some friends who have different view and moved(or considering to move) for language, professional growth, better healthcare reason. But again its personal preference 🙂 Also I'd like to mention the work life balance stats has been changed dramatically in past 3-4 years, which is unfortunate and that was the main reason for me to settle down here. The language is still needed here, if you want to socialize apart from work and colleagues.

All the best 😁
