What is the Worst Ballon D’or Robbery of All Time?

After Rodri shocked the world and snatched the Ballon D’or from Vinicius Jr at yesterday’s ceremony, the football community was left dumbfounded with many from fans to players calling it the worst robbery ever.

Let's be honest, Vini's season wouldn't have won the award in any of the previous 10 years though perhaps that's just the system-football era we are living through. City dropping off a cliff the minute Rodri got injured shows he is even more influential than his Ballon d'Or would suggest, despite not being a forward. He deserved that win

Bruh Rodri wasn’t undeserving of winning. I mean people literally were on the fence until it was “leaked” that Vini was gonna win a couple of months ago just for it to be a false report.

People were pretty much 50/50 by the time the euros ended but once that report came out that Vini was gonna win people just basically all thought he was gonna win no matter what

This is probably the most sensible video I've watched about the ballon d'or.

People make it out like every year is an absolute farce when really each player has their own unique case which makes it difficult to directly compare, it just depends what you value more.

Henry 4th in 2004 is definitely the worst placement in the history of the award, with an honorable mention for Messi finishing 5th in 2018 after having by far the most goal contributions and winning the domestic double.

For me it's ballon dor 2010 Diego Milito. He was the best the best player for the best team in the world, treble winning Inter. Milito's importance to Inter was insane. He was Serie A player of the year, Inter's player of the year and UEFA player of the season. He also was the most clutch player of 2010 as he scored in the final of the Italy cup (Coppa Italia), scored in the round of 16, quarter final, Semi final and the final of the UCL. These goals where not just stat padding, they were equalizing or winning goals against teams like Chelsea, Barcelona and Bayern. And he scored on the final day of Serie A to win Inter the title. With everything I just told you he wasn't even in the top 3, never mind top 3 he wasn't in the the top 5, scratch that he wasn't in the top 10, FORGET! the top 10 HE WASN'T EVEN NOMINATED. No that wasn't a typo, Your eyes just read that correctly. Diego Alberto Milito was NOT NOMINATED for the 2010 ballon dor. With the knowledge of everything Milito did that season France football decided that there were 30 players better than Milito that season💀. All because he only scored 1 goal in the worldcup when Messi also scored only 1 goal and he won the entire thing (the ballon dor). Forget about worst ballon dor robbery of all time how is this not the greatest robbery in the history of HUMANKIND??? Sorry if my English was not good

The Ballon d'Or doesn't really mean anything. It's ridiculous to name an individual player the best in the world of a team sport, especially when teams have as many as 11 on at a time. But I'm glad it's gone to a non-frontline player for a change. Look at the history - goalkeepers, defenders, CMs: 9 wins. AMs, wingers, forwards: 59 wins. That's what happens when the votes come from sports journalists who think goals and assists make players 'the best'.

The worst Ballon d'Or imo, is probably the very first. Stanley Matthews. I believe he won the award at 42 years old. It was more of a career celebration.

To be completely honest the prayer who was truly robbed was Bellingham. Was consistently great throughout the whole season both for club and country and even had notable games (both league El Classicos for example) but the hate campaign against him during the Euros and lack of backing in comparison to Vini killed his chances. Vini and Mbappe also have great cases due to Vini going insane in some of the biggest games despite an injury ridden first half of the season and Mbappe was the best player in the world but was held back by lack of team success. I just don't understand how Rodri got it when he has worse cases than each of the three I mentioned.

The award has no logic to it.
Lautaro did better than Messi in 2021 but somehow he doesn’t even make top 5.

Don’t look at the Ballon d’or as a best player or MVP award. it’s more similar to a TIMES personality of the year award.

Erm... glad to see that Nedvěd is now getting appreciated by fans that didn't see him play live, because Pavel Nedvěd was a GREAT player!

Unfortunately a similar presumption is now being made about Deco. Back in 03 and 04 when Porto won the UEFA Cup and then the CL the following season, Deco was viewed on par with Zidane, with some even so impressed they thought he might even be better.
Perhaps because Deco joined Barça to play alongside prime Ronaldinho, Deco was then seen as one of the stars, or a secondary star, rather than THE star man... but who would've shined brighter than prime Ronaldinho?!
Deco was a class act, there's no question about that. Although I do appreciate the direct comparison with Henry is confusing... they played different roles, weren't in the same position on the pitch. It's like "who's better", R9 or Ronaldinho, or R9 or Zidane?!?! Striker or playmaker. Henry btw had another world-class playmaker in Bergkamp assisting him, and along with Vieira and Pires who were both extremely technically gifted. It's not as if Henry was a 1-man show.
