Dark Matter Could Form Dark Stars, New Theory Says

85% of the universe is dark matter, astrophysicists say. You already knew this of course. But did you also know that scientists are now saying that some of this dark matter might form stars, the so-called axion stars. And that these stars may explode? What are axion stars? Is this plausible? How could we find out whether it's correct? Let’s have a look.

"This isn't a negative result, it's an interesting constraint"
I feel this is going to be a very useful response in everyday arguments from now on.

I suppose lack of funding wound be an uninteresting constraint?

In summary: Axion stars are a deeply-nested set of low-likelihood predicates that researchers are paid money to invent, and verified by using not currently-existing tools. Being harsh, it sounds like a combination of pseudo-science and grifting. Being generous, it sounds like they should come up with a better dark matter theory.

I just really like how she says "physicists" and "brilliant". Your attitude and creative presentation is very entertaining :) thank you sabine

I love how Sabine is giving us more and more insight into how crazy physics has become thanks to idiotic decisions based on findings physicists didn't like.

I always love the creative and professional ways Sabine finds to say “It’s probably bullshit.”

Sometimes I think modern scientists are not far removed from philosophers who pondered how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Classic ending Sabine ❤ I'm in the wrong line of work, I want to get paid for my crazy ideas too!

No one roasts like Sabine! 😅 I watch your videos every single day and I'm glad I came across your channel.

small correction:
if axions exists,
if they condense into stars
*if these stars has low self-esteem*
-> these stars will explode.

And then we can call the experiment: Observing the possible impact of sociological problems among axion stars on an early universe.
This sort of research is definitely worth paying for!

The word 'phssststs' is just marvelous! These people really deserve this name!

I noticed the mention of solitons in your presentation today, Sabine. Many moons ago I took a course in Introduction to Digital Signal Processing, which I enjoyed. DFT ( Discrete Fourier Transform ) is used to design digital filters ( low-pass, high-pass, band-pass filters and IIR filters to name a few. And now a brand spanking new technique, NFT ( Nonlinear Fourier Transform ) is beginning to be used in digital signal processing. Solitons ( a special kind of waveform ) make possible long distance transmission of signals via Digital Signal Processing.

This whole situation sounds very similar to string theory....

Sit around drinking coffee and snack on pastries. Come up with ideas that can’t be proven easily. I knew I went down the wrong path 40 years ago.

the third explanation could be the space is just in rotation in those galaxies and clusters by some reason, and this causes the observed velocity anomalies

The way Sabine describes axion star explosions reminds me of Mr Garrison explaining evolution.

Finally, I not only can see the infamous dark matter, but also have to buy some more of it home tomorrow as the last few drops of Axion detergent were just used up after washing dishes tonight...

The topic was dull but the sarcasm was excellent!
