Rooting Aloe Vera in an Aquaponic Garden | Aquaponics with JT Bear

Overwatering Aloe Vera plants is a myth!!! I've often heard tales of the dangers of overwatering aloe vera plants and as a result tend to let their soil become quite dry. In this video we look into the world of aquaponics and aloe vera, which should be far to damp of an environment for it. Back on the fifth of December I removed several pups from a rotting aloe Chox had rescued for me to play with and most of them had roots so transplanting was pretty straight forward. However, there were a few that lacked any root material at all and I decided to test some different ideas. You know me, Test, Learn & Grow! One idea was to put a small rootless pup into some dryer potting soil and see what happens if it's just left alone, while another was to put a rootless aloe pup into the aquaponic garden and see just how fast it would rot from being overwatered. Turns out, it didn't rot! In fact it has grown some nice, sturdy little roots and is starting to produce new leaves up top! Good deal!!! The little aloe pup in the dry soil did absolutely nothing as far as root production in that same time period and has now been moved into the aquaponic garden to start catching up.
And this folks is why I try things that people tell me is destined to fail. Turns out that's not always the case, and when it is I want to know why!!! Either way I win. :-) Thank you for joining me today as we answer the aquaponics and overwatered aloe vera question. Have a fantastic day and happy growing!

I think in the long run there is still the chance that the plant will rot from all that excessive moisture. I don't know for sure but I'd like to see. Thanx for sharing your experiment with us!

I hope they all root as well as at one did an I think the difference in overwatering and having it wet for too long when it's in soil is what they mean by overwatering need to let it dry out between times not bone dry just dry out enough that the IT isn't soggy wet

My experience with aloe is the roots can drown easy so i would guess that because the water drains away the oxygen never gets depleted. I dont think aloe would like DWC ha ha but it may survive if aerated excessively.
