Best review of the DS 220J that I’ve seen that concentrates on its market segments, ie home user. Other don’t do that and purely compares it to more expensive NAS and what it can’t do.

I’m looking at this one for storage and access from both iPads and Mac. Would this be the best choice?

Hi, Can you help me with two queries.
► Is 512 RAM sufficient for downloading torrent files using download station. Only difference between DS220j and DS218 seem to be of RAM but not sure if it justifies the huge price difference.
► Is the DS Video available for Android TV?

Would you recommend this system as an off-site "Back-Up Back-Up" for someone with a FreeNAS Server with 8TB in Raid0 (without any redundancy) ?
There are only about 1 TB of Files that need to be back up and preserved. SyncThing or RSync would be used to move data and keep it backed up

Thinking of replacing my cloud home device with this. Problem is I use plex to stream movies from my nas. Which is pre installed on most smart TV's and Xbox. Does synology have support for plex or will the software included work on my tv's an xbox?

Great review - thanks. One small thing (literally), you don't need to keep the sticker on the box. There's an identical one inside the unit.

7:03, "All data on the hard disks will be removed during the installation. Are you... " No, that's not what I want! I currently use two external enclosures as backup drives, one connected via eSATA, the other via USB. Windows sees them as 'local' drives and Retrospect backs up to them automatically via scripts. Would I be able to a achieve the same with the DS220j, I'm not interested in using the unit's software and I don't want anything deleted, I simply want one location where my two backup drives can be stored on the network? 16:28, I use MDIS to ensure my drives don't power up and down hundreds of times per day - the worst thing for a hard drive - MDIS queries them every 2 minutes to ensure they keep spinning at the same speed, 24/7.

Does this work for both a MAC and Window users? I would need to transfer my old data from a broken Windows laptop onto the drive and then hopefully still be able to access those documents from my new MAC?
