Using the Fusion 360 PATTERN ALONG PATH Tool - Fusion 360 Tool Tutorial

In today’s video, we’re going to talk about how to use the pattern along path tool in order to copy objects along paths in your models!

FUSION 360 TOOL TUTORIALS

This can be useful for many different things, including cutting openings in irregularly shaped objects, modeling things like fences, and much more.

The way it works is fairly simple – you just select a face, body, component, or feature, then select a path. The object will follow along the path. You can set the number of objects created, the distance along which your objects are extruded (note this this will snap to the end of your path for easy placement).

I knew about patterns on paths, but your last demo with a cylinder has given me a new insight of what vsn be done.
Thanks a million

You have the best videos for Fusion. Great info and you get to the point quickly.

One very usefull feature that I can find is to set the 'distance' attribute to te path length, so if the path changes the spacing is consistant. how would you do that ?

Very useful, I just started learning fusion 360. Trying to create harringbone tooth around a circle. I used the Helical gear addin to create a round harringbone wheel, then using the harringbone wheel as a tool, I pressed it into a raised cylinder. Using "Combine" I created a stamp, reverse single harringbone tooth that fit exactly into my wheel. So now using the "Pattern" and what you have shown here I was able to replacate the tooth around a circle. Still my measurements must be off a bit because the pattern is close to fitting but it is not perfect enough.

Im trying to find information on a specific question on the Fusion 360 Certification Practice test. The question is about Features on a Path. Im curious if Paths are just curved lines. Cause they are saying paths such a a square, circle and hexagon are not paths. Maybe you can give me some clarity on this?
Thanks for the video

Hi, good job. Possible animated object to path spline line ?

Great video! It seems that the corresponding tool is missing for elements within a sketch, do you have any ideas on that?

Great video. I can't for the life of me understand why Autodesk decided to use an absolute distance input for this tool rather than a relative distance like in the Sweep tool. In sweep, if you want the feature to go the full length of the path you just enter 1. If you change the length of the path later on through a parameter or by changing the sketch, the path feature will still go along the full path. This is not the case for the Pattern Along Path tool, so if you ever change the path length, you have to go manually update the pattern feature. It's a huge flaw in the implementation in my opinion.

I'm trying to create a pattern of parallel ridges on a 3D surface (a ribbon along an arbitrary 3D path). Basically I want to create a 3D ribbon with parallel ridges. I still haven't figured out an elegant way to do this.

Found some interesting tutorials on your channel. Would you be interested in doing a rubber track and sprocket, in regards to "pattern along path"? If the rubber track is 180 wide, with a picth of 60, and with 30 links it is pretty tricky to make the sprocket fo it..
