Fun fact, your aligator clips are connected together with a big steel bar, so you have effectively 2 resistors in parallel. The resistance of the bar is about .3 ohms. In a similar fashion, I once used a small nail as a shunt resistor: it is more compact. Nice work!

I am a little confused about device holding the wire and current traveling through it and the wire. Is the holder insulated from the wire?

En el esquema en papel 1:53 nos indica que hay que conectar el negativo del medidor a la entrada de la "resistencia" y el positivo a la salida, pero usted lo conecta al revés, es decir, conecta el positivo del multímetro a la entrada y el negativo a la salida, 3:44 ¿cual versión es la correcta?
