In this video I demonstrate how to play a card game that can be used to help students with their decimal place value knowledge in a fun and engaging way. This game can easily be adapted to suit the needs of a large variety of students studying in Key Stage 2.

The game is called 'Decimal War' and can be played with 2 - 4 students. All you need is a pack of cards and the game mat. The game mat template can be downloaded from this website:

I think I'll try playing using the face cards as zeros. The "zero" number mixes up a lot of students, especially in decimals.

I agree and will use the face cards as zero as well. What do you do with the ‘10’ cards?

Amazing 🎉 I will use them in multiplying and dividing decimal numbers by 10, 100, 1000

question: If player 1 sticks and player 2 steals does player 1 get another chance to swap or steal? Do they just get one chance to choose what move to make or can they keep making moves until they are satisfied?
