A hero is someone who strives to do the right thing for others. I've never really fought to protect others or to fight against evil. I only fought because it was one of the few things that I was good at.

Snake is the Hero of the whole saga. Now I want to see all those who thought that Big Boss was the best what do they think after playing MGSV.
They all thought Big Boss was the best, because they had the impression that Hideo preferred Big Boss over Solid Snake.
But MGSV put an end to the thing: Solid Snake is the hero. Solid Snake never "sold the world".
He never wanted to create an army to be "a Boss". That's why he's the Boss of the bosses. He didn't need to "think" about his actions. He just DID what was right to do.
He's just the best because he sacrificed himself for a just cause. From the beginning to the end of his life.
And of course, true heroes think of themselves things like "I'm no hero...never was...never will be".
