Check these five easy songwriting hacks that actually work. I know because they have come to my rescue as a songwriter more times than I care to remember. part of being a songwriter is writing from the heart in such a personal way that it somehow connects with a universal audience while at the same time being so original that everybody somehow can relate to our songs! Not a big ask, right? Hopefully, these songwriting hacks can get you one step closer to that.

Sometimes being a songwriter can feel like an impossible task. Waiting for inspiration to strike, wondering if our hooks are strong enough or are lyrics will aren't cheesy. If you are a songwriter reading this, I get it. We all go through it. We could all use a short cut to inspiration and to know for sure our songs are on the right path. That's why I created this video of easy songwriting hacks that work. I've also thrown in song songwriting challenges just to give you some ways to apply these hacks straight away. They have served me well over the years and I hope they do the same for you.

My main focus with this channel is to pass on the tools of the trade that I have learned and found to make a big difference to my creative flow and songwriting. There is an old saying that goes "everybody has one great song in them", I hope to show you that once you know what makes a song great, you can apply it to all the songs you write. Idk if it’s a ‘hack’ per se, but I’ve had a lot of creative success getting song ideas/writing songs from using prompts or things I’ve overheard/seen but not been personally involved in to form the catalyst of a main idea/theme of a song or lyric. The reason it works I think is because whatever I experience it is always as an outsider devoid of meaningful context which forces me to develop my own interpretive hermeneutics to fill in the gaps and frame the hearsay with a world of my own creation. The key is never to try to ‘make sense of’ or ‘figure out’ what the snippet was originally intended to mean; this is equivalent to magical thinking and always leads to failure or frustration. The more you can embrace the natural ‘otherness’ of what you heard the more it will lead you in to its own new and beautiful world of mystery and magic perfectly balanced between the sensibly implied meaning of the original idea and the undeniable trajectory of weirdness the same idea inheres when untethered from the vulgarity of the mundane. This juxtaposition of common virtue with naked authenticity illuminates to the intellect a glimpse of the uncanny providence of ‘the fall of man’ with ‘the gift of Lucifer’ ie, the enlightenment of man which forms the embryo primeval where ‘original sin’ and ‘divine knowledge’ are identical and inextricably linked in each infinite form they take, their genesis absolute and their identities irreducible. When morality and sin are segregated and separated at birth, forced into contradictions by our childishly moral delusions of salvation when sin is conquered by the good, the greatest violence of humanity is committed on truth and our own world is torn asunder by the discord we have wrought. And despite our fruitless efforts to bring harmony to this world it is by virtue of this unnatural act we suffer the most as we mistake sin as the opposite of virtue, a foe too powerful to destroy and incoherent to the good which is the lamb that lies down to the slaughter and this is the fool’s victory we claim, hopelessly unaware that it was never sin which was the enemy of the good, it was always we who were the enemy of truth and will always be the loser of the war we wage on the good, the bad and ultimately ourselves. That’s what you realize if you are willing to collect an utterance from its context and build the world of a song around it with only the truth of the utterance as your guide.

Hi Tony 👋 good to see you! Nice video, like your special FX too lol. Great tips as usual. I have a question, do you have any plans to show how to produce a song? Not that I sing but I think it would be interesting. See you in the next upload x

You asked about biggest challenges. I would like to be able to fit long complex scentences into a melody that at first doesn't seem to fit at all. If you hear the melody and read the lyrics on many famous songs you have no clue on how it's possible, then you hear the artist do it and it seems so natural. Like Leonard Cohen is a master of this, reading his lyrics just breaks my mind but when i hear him sing the song it's the most natural thing ever. I don't really think it's the da-DUM that's the (complete) secret to that... (?) ;)
