Just giving my two cents on a common question I get!

Are video games okay if we're optimizing fitness and health?

I get asked this often. I think people expect me to advise against them.

To be fair, I think a great many people spend too long on video games. Hours upon hours. Before bed and after waking up.

But people also spend similar hours on television and social media. I don't know if it's that different.

And yes, if you want to be like a monk in your training, you may want to minimize or eliminate digital entertainment and maximize personal development.

But most people probably don't want this at the moment.

Like many things, I think games can be fun in moderation.

Especially if you're playing with others and bonding!

Happy to know your thoughts as well!

(Btw - my Twitch is just It is not super exciting. I think I do it just as a way to unwind with a small audience and also connected with many younger members).

Thank you for this. Really got tired of people saying “I stopped playing games because it’s a waste of time and it’s a part of maturing we have to go through.” Then those same people spend hundreds of hours watching some tv show

I've been addicted to books since I learned to read, and I have the same issue - they're an escape mechanism rather than an activity in moderation. Video games get a bad rap, but anything can be unhealthy when not used properly or in a way that doesn't improve your quality of life.

Great take on video games, and things in general.

Just followed your twitch bro. You seem like a genuinely great, open minded man. We need more people like you in our world.

I remember back in my first semester, when our professor for developemental psychology talked to us about weather or not children and teens should play videogames. He kinda had a similar opinion as you.
Its all about what video games are used for. If its entertainment and a hobby: go for it. As long as all other parts of your life are doing good enough, there is no reason to enjoy some video games.

If you're using it to numb yourself or to escape from something: take a step back and work towards a solution.

I think his rule of thumb actually goes for every activity, even reading, working out our sinking into a relationship 🤷🏻‍♀️

Onen of the channels keeping me from giving up on exercising and working out, honestly a blessing that I found your channel since being a teen ager, I have no idea what to do but as you said in another video, "just start"

And I did just that.

Every time I watch these videos this man is so nice I start to feel guilty about things I’ve forgotten that I’ve done

I remember seeing a YouTube video where this guy said “you failed a level on a video game but never gave up and you kept trying again because the game was fun. So why not look at your life that way.”

Video games are a passion as well as a profession for me, but one piece of advice I have for anything you love doing is to have moderation — you can play too much, you can work out too much, you can study too much.

Life is a balancing act friends.

My dad when I play video games for 6 hours: 😡

My dad when he just sits and watches every single whatsapp video he got that day at the highest volume for 6 hours: 😇

Amazing perspective!! I’ve never before seen the connection between figuring out what you get from escapism and how you can get that same thing in real life.

Yeah I struggled with the escapism thing myself. Loved games until that. Then I blamed games saying exacty as what you said. But now that I’ve fixed up my life I’ve taken the honest approach. It was purely escapism me trying to fill in my life of past failures with the joy with easy achievements
Best advice to anyone who relates to my past would be talk to a friend or family member about your problem and accept criticism with an open mind. Wish everyone a good day💪

I used to play games as an escape and didn't know it; now if there are problems that need to be addressed, I cannot play games until I take care of them.
Games can also be an exercise for your brain as well :)

It's good to hear someone not bash games for once and talk about them in a normal way.
As simple as that sounds, I've been hearing it the bad way for decades now, and it never made sense to me.

Breath of the wild is such a beautiful and relaxing game without the monsters being there 😅
I completely agree with your statement as well on video games. I've been trying to work on myself too and I do much fitness myself but little by little things will get better.

The feeling of reward and achievement isn't often what makes me love a game. It is sometimes but not always. Usually it's the great story of the game.

My sister in law says this all the time and I just sit there and smile when she starts to talk about the shows that she binge watches. I just look at it as another form of entertainment. One that is interactive and, usually, non-linear.
